When a tail has a chip missing from the end, whether it takes a rounded or flat form. Common in Pikachus, where starting in the Gen IV games (Diamond and Pearl), it is indicitive of a female Pikachu; however, this is not enough by e621 standards to consider the Pikachu to be female, and should not be taken into account when determining the gender.
