Screencap Tags

These tags describe how a screen capture is used in a piece of art.

Screencap Background

Character(s) and sometimes objects are drawn on top of a scene from a piece of media, placing them in that scene, commonly seen in fan art of characters from cartoons and anime.

Screencap Edit

A screencap that has been drawn over to edit the content, or remove some — not to be confused with fake screencap or style emulation.

Screencap Redraw

A screencap (often shown as a reference image), is entirely redrawn, usually with the artist altering or adding elements in the redrawn version of the captured image

Fake Screencap

When a piece of art is made to resemble a screen capture, but isn't based on, or an edit of, an actual existing screen capture.

Reference Image

When a screencap featuring a pose or character is used as a reference for a drawing of that pose or character, usually shown off to the side of the artist's work or in the corner of the "canvas". Note that unless the reference image is specifically a frame of animation or video, it should not be tagged as screencap.
