A character that has facial features that give the character a remarkably youthful or adorable appearance. This may involve aspects that are chibiesque in nature, but it is not exclusive to the theme.
General guidelines
This tag should not be used purely for sexual appeal, or beauty. Scenes that focus on the sexual aspects of characters such as pinups are usually not a great fit for this tag. Be very mindful of scenes that contain characters with bedroom eyes, characters with flirty or lustful expressions, or contain other obvious fetish content as well. This tag is easier to misuse in sexualized scenarios.
It is recommended that content and character owners avoid using this tag on their own content and characters. Personal bias is easy to overlook.
Inexperienced taggers
If you are not very familiar with what exactly this term means on e621, here are some simple tips.
- Check the cub and chibi tags for examples. Younger characters tend to be drawn with exaggerated facial features. It is helpful to know what to look for in a young character before you try to use this tag for more mature characters.
- Choose scenes containing expressive characters over characters lacking expressive qualities. The best examples will contain expressive qualities that draw attention to the face. These qualities usually fall under cute eyes or cute expression. Look for those qualities when tagging.
- Avoid using for examples where the face is partially out of view, or obscured. The best examples will have the character facing in the general direction of the viewer.
Use this tag sparingly for canon art styles of popular franchises. This helps avoid franchise bias, and more easily expose examples that go beyond the status quo.
Common traits
- Has traits such such as a small, snout, nose, or mouth, often contrasted with big eyes and enlarged ears.
- Facial features may include cheek tufts, cheek spots, tiny pointed teeth, or facial markings such as freckles, birthmarks, or cutesy stuff like heart markings.
- Effects such as blushing, tears, or hair that frames the face may also be determinant factors to consider.
Content that focuses more on cutesy or exaggerated expressions should use cute expression instead, but the two tags frequently overlap.
