A floppy disk, also called a floppy, diskette or just disk, is a type of disk storage composed of a disk of thin and flexible magnetic storage medium, sealed in a square plastic enclosure lined with fabric that removes dust particles. Floppy disks are read and written by a floppy disk drive (FDD).
These disks came most popularly known in their 3.5 inch and 5.25 inch formats, but were predated by an 8 inch format too. The two bigger formats were almost all black in colour with a sticker label in the corner, whereas the 3.5 inch version came mostly in blue, very often in black and additionally in several other colours.
