Character: frederick douglass
Frederick Douglass (February 1818 – February 1895) was an African-American abolitionist, author, orator, social reformer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery from his early life in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, his influence spreading before long to the rest of the nation. Active in many causes on behalf of liberty and equality, he's regarded as one of the greatest African-Americans of all time.
