Despite being visually similar to more traditional furry species (called Keidran in-universe), they take the comparison as an insult. Basitin live in a heavily regulated society, and posess a biological compulsion to obey laws. As such, they see humans as undisciplined rabble, and Keidran as perverse undisciplined rabble.
An odd bit of Basitin culture is that to them, walking around barefooted is obscene - more so than lacking pants, for example.
However, the above only applies to Eastern Basitin that are featured in the comic most prominently. The Western Basitin are implied to be much less strict in their lifestyle.
