Gemini, the Twins, is the third sign of the Western Zodiac. The sign is based upon the story of Castor and Pollux. Their mother Leda hatched them out of an egg, after a romantic encounter with Zeus in the guise of a swan. While they were twins, they were not identical, having different fathers. One was mortal, while the other shared Zeus' immortality. When the mortal twin was killed, his brother asked the gods to let him share his immortality with his brother. They were transformed into the stars themselves and remain together to this day.
