Character: sherlock hound
Central character of the early 80s cartoon / anime of the same name directed by Miyazaki and Mikuriya, based on the original victorian serials. But as a dog with a joke name.
Hound in this case appears to be an irish setter, red wolfhound or other similar breed. Taking up the usual gentleman detective role, as a combination of classic Rathbone-era British gent, and Downey-Jr Action Detective, going nowhere near the recent BBC adaption zone. He never seems to dress in tweed, often being turned out more like Lupin III, but does retain the deerstalker hat and a brown suede trenchcoat. He is tall, well spoken, terrible at chemistry, brave, athletic, an inveterate pipe smoker and clutter-collector, a good fighter when the situation demands, driver and maintainer of a nameless veteran car, and carries a tiny and poorly exercised flame for his widowed housekeeper (...as does everyone else in town). And a peerless observational detective of course.
