Kanako is also a Boss Monster, a trait she inherited from her father. Her father worked secretly on a serum that he hoped would empower monsters to fight humans on equal terms, as by nature, monsters are far weaker than humans. This serum required fusing a Boss Monster and a human Soul. Having few Boss Monsters to run tests on, Chujin ran numerous tests on himself until the experiments made him fatally ill, leaving his research to his wife after he passed away.

After discovering her father's secret basement and his work, Kanako insisted to her mother that she assist in the creation of this serum, conflicting with Chujin's final wishes. In a moment of weakness and desperation, Ceroba tested the serum on her daughter. The result was a disaster that left Kanako in a terminal coma. Desperate to find any way to save her daughter, Ceroba signed Kanako up for an experimental program headed by Dr. Alphys, which was likely the Determination experiments seen in Undertale. Kanako's fate remains unknown.
