Billy Possum is essentially a turn-of-the-20th-century attempt at giving then President-elect William Howard Taft (term 1909-1913) a fursona. It was inspired by toy manufacturers feeding Taft a meal including a roasted opossum in order to influence the next toy fad as they (erroneously, as it turns out) believed that the teddy bear craze wouldn't last beyond namesake Theodore Roosevelt's term. It didn't catch on, dying out before Christmas.
