4 fingers

[Back: fingers]

A character with four fingers - this includes the thumb. Characters with four fingers are most often drawn specifically with three fingers and a thumb, but this tag can apply to rare instances where there is no thumb, and only four actual fingers, which may be shown on a non-humanlike hand, or as the result of amputation.

Human, humanoid, and anthro characters in animation are frequently drawn with (or rendered with) four fingers, this practice done to save time and effort in animating hands. The addition of an anatomically correct fifth finger being unnecessary for depicting practically all hand poses or gestures, and easily omitted without being distracting to the audience.

Characters drawn in a toony style, even outside of animation, will often be drawn with four fingers to emulate this practice (or remain true to the character model).
