Topic: Performance Improvements! 1/03/2013

Posted under General

Hey folks,

The site's performance should be substantially better than the preceding week, due to fixing a stupid bug that I introduced last week while performing some routine configuration changes. Thanks to everyone for being so patient while the site's been running like molasses - this is all my fault XD

The site's performance should be a lot faster now, especially during peak times. If you notice any further performance issues (pages loading slow, etc), or if you have any other performance-related feedback, please let us know in this thread.

Graph of error rate (almost all of these were caused by my stupid mistake): https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BEU4wRcCAAAn_nF.png:large

Graph of e621 response time: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BEU6ib3CYAAx5K6.png:large

See attached graphs of the 'before and after' effect of us fixing this really stupid bug, which was leading to an image being loaded in the sidebar that contained a link to a non-existent page on *every pageview*.

Hope you enjoy the new faster, sexier e621!

TL;DR I'm retarded, I unfucked the setting I broke last week.

Thanks!

- Varka

I didn't noticed the slowdown, maybe because having a slow computer doesn't help much n_n;

hmm I notice the slow down but it wasn't that bad.

THANK YOU. Dude, every time I'm tagging images, I keep getting jumped by the 500 errors. So far after the site fix, not one 500 error showed up. I am a happy camper

I did notice the slowdown and it was pure suffering.
What about those 503 errors? Are they gone too?

503? Dude, where you've been? I just got some 500 here and there...

The engine hasn't done 503 errors since arcturus ripped it out the core years ago.. I really want to get them back though.. if the sites overloading.. a real 503 error (site overload) is better then 500 (site error (mostly database timeouts due to overrunning code)

Motherfu-

Anyway, I DO in fact remember getting some of the good ol' 500-internal-server-errors every now and then for the last few days. It hardly bothered me at all, but it's great to see the admins of at least one site still strive for perfection. Or the closest you can get to perfect.

What's wrong with you!? It was a fucking ';'!! :P

E: Out of curiosity, may I ask what was it?

Site's working a lot faster, even with the slow-ass Internet I pay for (fucking u-verse). Gratias tibi valde.

you know 505 errors
...cause the world isn't ready for 506 errors
/me laughs maniacally

It´s not such a problem. :3

Good work Varka.

Site seems borked again, unless it's just me

Not just you. =>.<=

Was fine three hours ago.

Apparently, me too. :/

We told ya 'bout them ; and ()

500 errors seem to be fixed on my end
But I did experiance them for a good 3 hours while trying to access the site off and on, took each page at least 5 page loads to work.

I don't get any errors that I can see, but quite often the forum is slow as molasses in January whereas the image part of the site is lightning fast.

(This is not a complaint: Only an observation.)

Heya, the "My Profile" page seems to load slowly. Made another topic before someone pointed me here, and it seems others have experienced similar issues.

It's known. We are gonna be doing a lot of big changes so performance optimization on user accounts is backburnered.

We're investigating some periodic slowdowns in the evenings that seem to be related to our hourly maintenance jobs. Aurali has done some changes that seem to have improved things a lot, we will be keeping a close eye on it to see if it's done the job!

Any more performance problems, let us know here as always :)

For few last days I'm getting a lot of 500 errors in various time of day. What's more, one time when I wanted to parent a post I got redirected to https://domain.com/post/update/303243

Did you enter just the number of the post you are trying to parent it to? I've never gotten redirected when doing that. Can you show me the parent and child posts if they haven't already been connected?

Updated by anonymous

It was this and I've got two tries like that, then after waiting few minutes I managed to parent it, and such error never happened again. I also haven't encountered it ever before, so I was rather surprised by it.

And while this was one time problem, 500 errors are still really frequent (at least to me) recently.
