not all images have characters in them

well, you'd need them to be check boxes, not one-or-the-other selectors...
You'd need male, female, ambiguous_gender, herm, dickgirl, and cuntboy... adding "other" seems like it would be pretty simple as well. If 'male' adds the 'male' tag, then 'other' can add nothing...

not that I'm necessarily arguing for this, but hey.

A search feature I'd like to see, but don't really expect to see anytime soon, because it's possible to accomplish the same things at present (although it's clumsy, requiring either multiple searches or adjusting your blacklist for the purposes of one search).

Tag Grouping

The ability to group tags when using logical operators. Examples:
~(A B) ~(C D) returns images with A and B, or C and D (can be done with two searches)
~(A B) ~C returns images with A and B, or C (can be done with two searches)
~(A B) ~C D returns images with D, and either A and B, or C (can be done with two searches)
(A -B) C returns all images tagged with C, unless it has A and does not have B (n.b. if an image has B without A it still shows up) (can be done with two searches, or by blacklisting A -B)
-(A B) C returns all images tagged with C, unless it has A and B together (n.b. if an image has either A or B it will show up in the results) (can be done by blacklisting A B, but I don't think this can be duplicated without the blacklist)

Requested Feature: Turn the background color red on flagging/reporting pages
Useful because: People wouldn't think the report button is the respond button as much and would know that flagging something is a serious "stop and think about it" thing

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: show implications on wiki pages like aliases

Why it would be useful: makes it easier to see which tag is connected

BTW i know i could just go to the implication page for that. But it would still be a nice feature to have in the wiki section.

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: we should have an "aaaaaaaaa I came" feature like Rule34.
Why it would be useful: Less trolling and comments on pics about how they like it "too much".

Updated by anonymous

In next update

Apply tag aliases to blacklist

Requested Feature: Have the server parse out a person's blacklist when they edit it in their user settings, do alias searches for all the tags within it and replace tags with aliases as appropriate, and then commit a blacklist that has all the proper aliases sorted out. So a person could put in "mlp rating:e" and after submitting they'd see the line had been changed to "my_little_pony rating:e".

Why it would be useful: Easier, more reliable blacklisting because people won't have to remember aliases.

Updated by anonymous

Does an equivalent method of doing this already exist?

Requested Feature: A metatag for tags that a user has edited (e.g. tagedit:char scalie will show posts that Char tagged, or untagged with scalie)

Why it would be useful: Allows users to search for other users' tag edits. (The ability to search for edited posts by post id, and not tag is possible as well)

Updated by anonymous

this is a little one, but... I wish that when I used a thumb nail, they wouldn't by default start a new line. it's frustrating to post #229885 post #229696 post #229694 and have them all display on separate lines... it'd take less vertical space to <thumbnail here> and <thumbnail here> to <thumbnail here> .. if i want line breaks, I'll put 'em in myself.

Already possible

Ability to flag approved posts

Requester Feature: Flag for deletion of approved posts.

Useful Because If there are ever reposts that need to be deleted, e.g, of post #84058, or troll posts that were approved.

Updated by anonymous

Fixed in next update

Easier way to switch between aliases and implications

Requested Feature: Can we go back to the old alias/implication search interface?
Why it would be useful: It was much more convenient to be able to type in a tag once, click "search implications", and then "search aliases" to get a picture of all the implications and aliases involved than to go to Tags > Implications >type in name > search > Tags > Aliases > type in name again > search

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: Separate blacklist for avatars.
Why it would be useful: Because the blacklist on posts is a great tool for supplementing image searches by applying a client-side filter to common topics I'm not interested in, but that's an entirely separate issue from avatars where there is a much smaller set of images that I just never, ever, ever want to see. Ever.

A couple of months ago, titaniachkt suggested an option to blacklist avatars by rating. Similar idea, I'm just thinking it may be easier to implement a whole-hog solution that stores a separate blacklist for the forums, and ne'er the two (forums and image search) should mix.

Cum/came counter

I don't know if this has been requested before, but....

Requested Feature: Implementing a "cum/came" counter for explicit/pr0n posts.
Why it would be useful: Several reasons;
1. It can eliminate those creepy "I came." comments.
2. This can be a form of info that artists can use to judge how "good"/popular their posts are.
3. It can give us another way to see what's currently popular.

I've seen it used on the rule34 booru before, and they've even made a page listing top counters, which I find to be useful as to what the "current trends" are.

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: Ability to search "-fav:bob" and "-user:bob"
Why it would be useful: To search for images you haven't favourited or uploaded, rather than having to sift through all of them.

EDIT: Also "~fav:bob ~user:bob" would be nice, so I could search through my favourites and my uploads at the same time.

has the ability to remove flag for deletions by the one who flagged it been submitted for request? would be useful if the person flagged it by accident.

Request: Sort posts by number of tags.
Why: Would serve as a handy list of posts that need tagging. Go through the list from the beginning and add tags.

Request: Wiki articles for tags should include "The following tags imply this tag:"

Why: One click to find out which tag is preventing you from removing a tag.

Why: Because why is even on a locked thread?

But what about admins responding to each other in locked topics?

Updated by anonymous

It's possible to have it hidden (or replaced with a non-clickable "Locked") for regular users but left working for mods+.

Not sure that its worth the effort, though.

Requested feature:
When you upload a better version of an image, and the old version gets deleted, the comments from the old version should be transferred to the new one. This already works with favorites, as long as the new post is set as the old post's parent.

Why it would be useful:
Some comments are informative or funny, and it'd be a shame if they got deleted.

Parent/child relationships don't necessarily mean that the images are the same, therefore comments would end up making no sense since they're on different images than they were created for.

But the post transfer would presumably only apply if the child pic were deleted. There would be no reason to delete anything if the parent/child posts were different.

Unless the image is deleted for reasons other then it being a duplicate -- like the child being an unauthorized edit that the artist requests removal of.

Updated by anonymous

Maybe it could be set up as an option during deletion?
On a different topic...
Feature request: Some form of differentiation for Flash thumbnails. Automated screenshots, user-selected screenshots, even just put the md5 of the file on the thumb. It doesn't need to be useful for finding flashes the first time to be useful for finding a flash again.
Why this would be useful: "I wish I could find that flash with X and Y again...which one was it? "

Feature Request: You know the account upgrades like contributor and mod and admin and member? Is there a description thing to any of them?

Why would it be useful: I want to know what it takes to be a Janitor. *cringes* Don't hit me!

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: Highlight un-hidden images.

Why it would be useful: If you un-hide a tag you had blacklisted, you have to scroll up and down the page to figure out where the un-hidden images are in the page, trying to figure out which images get displaced so you can find it. A nice border around images when they've been un-hidden would make them easy to find at a glance.

Requested feature: Random button not causing blacklisted images to show up.

Why it would be useful: People don't want to play Russian Roulette when they click random. They just want a random pick at images they might be interested in.

possible, but too much of a pain to impliment correctly.

Isn't having a minus sign infront of a word usually saying, "hey, I don't like the bass but I do not want music in my searches"
http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/searchtips.html#exclude_words

Even if you hadn't faved them, there are still an assload of stuff to sort through and 'bob' might not have want you want uploaded or fave.
By the incorrect context of your search, you are stating that searchs and favorites by 'bob do Not show up.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here.

By the incorrect context of your search, you are stating that searchs and favorites by 'bob do Not show up.

If you replace "searchs" with "uploads", yes, that is what is being requested. Test-Subject_217601 would like to be able to find images that have NOT been favorited by a particular user. An example use case:
I might like to search for x y z -fav:snowy, so that I can find images of x y z that I haven't favorited yet, and possibly add them to my favorites, because I really enjoy images of x y z.

What happens when bob is you?
What happens when you have over 20,000 favorites?

It would be a good feature to have, trust me.

Can I suggest something? ...well I will anyway, so I guess asking doesn't matter, it's just a matter of will my suggestion get positive or negative attention, or will it even be noticed at all. Anyway, my suggestion request thing is this- is there a user counter? you know, to tell how many users are online at any one time? if there isn't, that might be pretty nifty, if only for the sake of curiosity.

yep but only available to the analytics users.

Please remove the ability for new users to submit tickets. We've had an influx of spam accounts abusing tickets for trolling purposes.

How about a little counter on the posting page that tells you 2 things.

How many Posts you have that are "Pending" and how many posts you can make in total (the whole 10+(Approved/10)-(Deleted/4) thing).

Just as a quick reference to see how many posts are available at the moment without having to go all the way into the Profile. Not sure if it can be done, but I would appreciate it as a reference.

Request: Have the server include Content-Length header when sending images.
Why: So clients (particularly on crappy connections) can display download progress and retry failed downloads.

(Unless it already does, and it's just being ignored on my end for some reason... >.>)

Feature: Add "Remember to use underscores for spaces" on the "no posts matched your search" dialog
Why it would be useful: Whenever I tell someone about the site they come back and say "I typed in family [space] guy and got nothing, what kind of crap site is this?"

Even when I tell them they just say forget it and move on

This seems like the most missed thing for new-to-booru users

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: When people use the "post without bumping" when commenting it shouldn't affect when you are viewing comments on your posts

Why it would be useful: so you can see all comments you get on your uploads

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: The ability to track/favorite tags (and possibly receive a small notification if any new images are uploaded with that tag), if it's able to implement of course.

Why it would be useful: To be able to quickly find any new uploaded images that have been tagged with your tracked/favorited tag.

I don't think so, I have a basic account and I can add them (just tested right now). Though I don't know how they work exactly *pokes around*

(This idea is not my own, but was suggested to me via e-mail by an e621 user who I never got the name of).

Requested feature: Implement an ability to search for pools via the tags that the images contain (particularly on the Pool page's search ). I think this should also be extended to the main search feature as well via a new meta-tag like "inpool:". So your options would be "inpool:yes" and "inpool:no".

Why it would be useful: This would allow you to find comics/collections specifically that contain images relevant to your interest, in case you're looking for more story or a series of images instead of just one-off pieces.

Requested feature: Two source fields: one for the artist's gallery, and one for a direct link to the work's page. Or n source fields, which would be useful for works hosted on multiple sites (although likely prone to misuse).
Why this would be useful: Some people have the very strong opinion that source fields should link to the artist's gallery. Other people have the very strong opinion that the source filed should go directly to the work's page, since the artist's gallery can be located easily through the artist's wiki page. This would let both sides be happy.

Requested feature: Overhaul of the "edit posts" mode

What should be overhauled? Currently if you are in this mode and you click on a thumbnail a little text box appears at the top of all posts with the save and cancel buttons below. This is pretty horrible if you want to quickly tag a couple pictures at the bottom of the page and you need to always scroll down again.

How would I like it? You click a post, a new, centered frame appears, with the normal text box and buttons and either the thumbnail of the post above/besides it or a bit bigger preview of the post in question.
Oh, and the position of the text cursor should properly reset to the beginning with every new clicked post.(Had to restore a few destroyed tags thanks to the not resetting >_>)

Why it would be useful: You wouldn't need to scroll down again and again, you could be able to see the picture in question without loading the comments and would probably make that mode more attractive to normal users.

Surely when your current upload limit is zero, the upload form shouldn't even appear? I assume it'd just reject anything I tried to upload, but that's a huge UI design fail: don't let the user waste their time filling in information that you already know you're going to discard. :|

That's why the user can just look at their upoad limit on their profile page to see how many images they can currently upload.

Updated by anonymous

What the hell? Why did that post twice at the same time?

Updated by anonymous

Well yes, it just doesn't make sense to me to let them try if it's not going to succeed.

Related, if a post is submitted with a tag aliased to avoid_posting, why accept the post in the first place? At least display a warning. Makes more sense to reject it entirely than to accept it and then have to delete it.

Updated by anonymous

Because not everything tagged avoid_posting is to be avoided.

take post #222922 for example. It appears to be a group picture of numerous artists and their fursonas. one or more of the artists' is actually DNP, but he didn't draw the image, the uploader did. Frisky_ferals is DNP, but they post promotional free artwork that they allow to be posted, as are a few other pay sites. Some artists prefer that their explicit artwork stay on furaffinity and inkbunny.

People should be looking at the list before posting. :C and, generally speaking, if you catch your oops and FFD, we're not going to get angry at you. (unless you're a repeat offender who can't seem to remember to check...)

...also, setting up a sustem of 'don't allow this image to be posted' would probably be a whole new bunch of programing.. especialyl as, if I had to guess, the system words as such: image is uploaded, numbered, tags are applied, alias/implications applied. .. meaning by the time 'avoid_posting' appears, it's already on the site--tha'ts my guess, though.

are you suggesting that users with a negative posting limit (something only achieved by having many deleted posts) shoudl slowly, naturally gain a positive posting limit?

Updated by anonymous

SnowWolf said:

Well that's why it'd be a warning. You can still proceed. Of course people should check the list, but not everyone will; for some, it'd be a helpful reminder.

I'm not sure how the system is coded, but it should be possible that when you click submit, a script queries the server to see whether any of the given tags are DNP before even submitting the post. If it says yes, the script would just show a prompt like "The following tags are marked avoid_posting: foo, bar. Are you sure you want to post this image?" That could even be done with a userscript, but it'd have to query one tag at a time, so it'd be slow and inefficient.

Updated by anonymous

SnowWolf said:

The system should be 158 strikes and you're out, not 157. :P

But it doesn't seem like a terribly bad idea to me, on its face, just as long as it was heavily throttled and had exponential negative consequences for continued bad posting. Suppose a person who goes negative loses posting ability for 20*1.5^(-N) days, where N is their negative post limit. So a person who hits 0 exactly gets a 20 day ban on posting new images, a person who goes -1 gets a 30 day ban, -2 is a 45 day ban, etc., etc., and Mario would have a 227 day ban on posting new images. After the elapsed time, the user gets a "grace score" of 1 post per day. The user can work their way back to a positive upload limit that way without risking too much work on the admins if they continue to post garbage. And if the user does post another image that gets deleted while they still have a non-positive post limit, it restarts the ban.

Requested Feature: Mass uploading feature.

Useful Because: This feature is more a luxury than a requirement. The uploader will have the ability to post a large amount of pictures or a comic with ease.

Requested Feature: Directly adding posts into pool when uploading.

Useful Because: Like the parent post feature when uploading, this would be very useful in terms of making things easy to connect posts with one another.
