Topic: Similar Anthro Video Games

Posted under Off Topic

There was probably already a similar topic but I'll try to make it a bit different by bringing up Dust: An Elysian Tail, I was wondering if anyone still remembered that hidden gem of a game? Also if there were any other video games that resembled or were similar to that of Dust in terms of playing as an anthropomorphic protagonist populated in a world full of anthropomorphic characters, preferably hand drawn games similar to the art style of Dust, but can be any style.

Hmm~ Off the top of my head I can think of these few:
(I'm pretty much just listing off games with a mostly, or entirely animal cast, since ones that are similar to Dust are very rare, if not the only one of it's exact kind.)

-The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon/Pokepark Series: Completely filled with talking pokemon and not a human in sight.

-Solatorobo: Might be hard to find, but has an entire cast of anthro characters, though in a japanese/kemono style. I for one prefer that, as most western designs tend to look more human than animal at times, but some may not.

-Freedom Planet: As much as I personally detest sonic and sonic inspired characters, themes, etc, it's a game with anthro characters and what not, and plays like a classic sonic game.

-Drawn to Life 1 and 2: Aside from the main character, who's a mannequin you can draw to be whatever you wish, the game is populated with small fox like characters.

-Cave Story (sorta): There are humans and what not in there, but the Mimiga (pretty much floppy ear'd dogs) make up the majority... kinda.

Ty, The Tasmanian Tiger (first and 2nd game)

it's not entirely anthro but most bosses and normal enemies throughout the maga man franchise do tend to lean towards the anthro side of things.

that's about all i can think of at the moment. this is actually something i too look for in games sometimes. i mean, when you can just look around irl at any given time and see humans everywhere it gets a bit...boring? mundane? repetitive? playing a human protagonist (or antagonist if the game has you playing as a villain which happens sometimes too) all the time gets annoying for me.

it's like, give me something i haven't seen EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. OF. MY. LIFE. i mean...geez, we humans are like the only sentient life on this planet. can't we come up with something less boring to look at than ourselves?

It's pretty pricey on eBay, but I don't care about smart stupid scalpers because I bought it at launch, bonus CD soundtrack included. And just recently, I found its ENTIRE soundtrack, titled "Solatorobo Perfect Sound Track".

Good thing too, because both the opening and ending themes of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, as well as the soundtrack in general, is unique and memorable.

If anyone plans on picking up the game, the best way that I can describe it is that it's like a furry Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, with a bit of Sonic the Hedgehog thrown into the mix.

iirc Solatorobo: Red the Hunter takes place in the same universe as tail concerto. the mech based combat and controls are pretty much the same too, i think.

Those are some good suggestions, I'll have to check those out, thanks!

Also, since we're throwing out classics, I would like to add the Sly Cooper series to the mix, which has it's own unique art style and great anthro universe, I recommend it to anyone who hasn't played them!

DRAGON: A Game About a Dragon. Made by 'Games With Dragons In'.

I suppose I should mention A Dragon Named Coal. Which is an another dragon game, currently in development. It looks good so far, though the demo was rather short and the team is small so... who knows if there'll ever be a full version.

Well, okay, both of those have human characters and you were looking for fully anthro games. I'm just mentioning those because they're (kinda) in the same genre as Dust.

As for games that aren't... Armello is 100% anthro. It's kind of a multiplayer strategy board game. Wasn't really my cup of tea, but it has got good reviews so far.

Then there's Lost Constellation, a short sidescrolling pay-what-you-want adventure by the creators of Night in the Woods.

And The Tenth Line is an another anthro game in development.

...come to think about it, there's a lot of anthro protagonists in the adventure genre. Inherit the Earth, the whole Sam & Max series, Big Brain Wolf, Jolly Rover...

Lugaru and Overgrowth are all about complex combat in a world filled with bipedal wolves, dogs, cats, rats, and rabbits. Overgrowth is the sequel to Lugaru and still in development. It's available for early access though.
