Topic: Do we do something about traces?

Posted under General

I didn't really find anything saying, but I could swear I've seen at least one takedown for a trace sometime in the past.

I don't know if it's technically a trace or what counts, or what we generally do about that. Looks like it's been around a long time though.

Pretty sure it's a parody of some sort.

While you did make a forum post so at least one admin will show up, what I've done for traces in the past was just contact an admin since I don't have any tools for finding out traces. They have been able to determine whether or not they are traces with some unknown software or site...

The scenes are the same but this isn't a trace at all, don't use trace just to point out that two things look really similar. For instance, the sissy poses on the bottom left are completely different.

On http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=18083279 the "traced" one, the description clearly shows that it's some sort of image responses, and as far as I know, Japanese people are less prone to whine and rage when someone does something like that to them, while here a lot of artists will shout at you if you draw fanart of their OC. I'm sure the one artist that got his art "traced" is actually completely aware of that and sees no problem at all.

Got a confirmation from a Japanese buddy that this "traced" picture is actually a collab with the other guy who apparently got his art traced, no need to press the alarm button anymore

you can determinate if its a trace p easily: put them on two layers in gimp or basically any image editing software that supports layers, lower opacity of the top layer and try to align the lines.

Now if only there were something like that for mobile... But I also stopped bothering to determine whether or not images are traced because I always have a feeling of deja vu when it comes to imagery.

I didnt want to create a thread for something small but how about this picture.

Which is a clear trace of lucario's official artwork. How does the rules on tracing apply to official artwork?

i am not exactly sure but an app called medibang might be able to do it. it does support layers and also it allows you to edit photos but im not sure if its capable to copypaste one image as new layer on another image.

Edit by how? Are we talking basic drawing, cuts and crops, or what? This does sound useful...

We have the following report reason:

"This post is an uncredited trace of another artist's work"
