If you are worried that your pictures may be more than questionable, then rate them explicit when uploading. There's nothing against the rules about rating carefully.
Just make sure you tag your images with at least four unimplicated tags--You can tag things like the background color, if the background is detailed, what species a character is, the color of their body, fur, scales or skin (If it's not obvious without outside knowledge, tag it as body), genders (If there's nothing defining it as masculine or feminine, tag it as ambiguous), eye colors, etc.
As long as you tag four things, you might be yelled at, but you won't be stoned... Assuming you can refrain from arguing with the people yelling. Most of us understand that not everybody knows what to tag and that time is needed to learn, so don't be afraid of a slight messup here or there.

If you haven't already seen it, you can go into the "My Account" link up top and view comments on posts you uploaded through there, which lets you see if somebody's offered criticism for any of your uploads.

If you wish to start uploading artwork of your own making, this guideline will give you a sufficient explanation of the do's and don'ts of e621.

Long story short, don't upload memes, real-life pornography, low-res images (under most circumstances anyway), human-only images, and try to avoid uploading pencil sketches that were photographed ("invest into a scanner, people!"). This is predominately a furry porn archive, and it makes it easier on the Admins, Moderators, and Janitors involved that approve/delete freshly uploaded images, be they your own or from a different artist.

And depending on your skill as an artist, you are at the mercy of those viewing your image here on e621. People will either love your work or hate it. But the e621 community is generally well-behaved.
