Topic: TheBoogie VS Patreon Paywall

Posted under General

I was visiting the wonders of rule34 and recently saw some pictures from TheBoogie, savagely censored with Patreon logos everywhere. Well there you go, another artist I like that is now doing some stupid disgusting paywalls now.

However, I looked into it and, I'm not quite sure it is actually the case. I looked at his Patreon and, unless he's super douchebag, there's no mention of paywall beside early access stuff, still pretty bullshit but I am fine with that, he wouldn't post his pictures with some fucking stupid Patreon logo watermark anywhere. He also mentions how he is against paywalling, so again, that looks contradictory to all that Patreon crap I saw from him, if they're actually from him.

Beside being uploaded on rule34, they are nowhere to be seen, so if that would really have been legit then he would surely have posted them on his Tumblr at least, unless he didn't because he didn't want to make his followers outraged by Patreon crap.

I only have two hypothesis in mind : Some troll took some early stuff rewards, pasted the Patreon logos everywhere on them, made a rule34 account and uploaded them just for the lulz or to make us rage at TheBoogie, or TheBoogis is actually being really nasty here and recently decided to paywall his pictures but didn't update his Patreon info.

Does someone else actually have any idea if that's actually the case or not ?

My guess is it's either a really spiteful troll (doubtful, if that were the case the links would lead to their normal galleries for people to rage at, not to the legit patreon), or Boogie just (awkwardly and aggressively) advertising their patreon.

As of writing this the uploader joined 24h ago, he only posted those censored images. Pretty sure that's just a troll.

That is what I am thinking too, but it's also easy to think that it's actually himself who made the account solely to advertise his Patreon, but for everything I find that makes him look like it's really him doing some Patreon Paywall, I find something else contradictory to counter, really hard to actually have a consensus on my own

So we have come into situation where censoring with patreon logos is so common, that it's easy to troll people with that...

Though that's understandable, being treated like complete trash because you are just a fan of someones work and not money printer makes anyone mad and trolling is about getting strong reactions.

From my experience most of the "Patreon Paywalls" have more to do with the resolution of the image. A lot of artists will release their Patreon art for free, but at a reduced resolution after a period of time or as a part of encouraging users to become a patron. The art where the Patreon Logo is absurdly used to censor the art almost always seems to be from trolling uploaders either trying to make the artist seem like a scumbag or people who in general take offense to Patreon and want to spread more dislike of the service into a community.

You could always go and just ask TheBoogie on one of his official accounts. I mean, worst case scenario it turns out it IS a troll and he cam shut it down before it does any damage.

I would have done it sooner but, I have this, phobia I guess, to bother people that are clearly better than me, that on top of the fear of knowing that he actually is paywalling all of his stuff kind of scares me too. I'd rather wait and see than throwing my hand in the fire

Do you want me to go pester him, or does "Sooner" mean you have done so now?

I can pester people just fine. I don't bite the hand that feeds me, but I will grasp it and play "Shake"!

Just now TheBoogie posted a Tumblr post about the 5$ tier now gives access to unreleased WIP content. From what I read they're unpolished and incomplete drawings that he just doesn't think to post because he forgets them. Still no idea if he's the guy behind those paywall pictures uploaded on rule34 or not, but it is a little harder to think he's innocent because he screencapped how many pictures there are with his artist tag, and by doing that, he should have seen the newest pictures with all those disgusting P logos everywhere but he doesn't mention them at all anywhere, leaving me to think that he simply is the one who uploaded them in the first place, most likely for a shameless plug to his Patreon. He said that only unfinished work would be available for early access, but there are actually two finished/close to be completed pictures that are censored, and if it happens he is behind those paywall pictures, then I call bullshit on his "I'm not paywalling my stuff" statement.

I still don't leave out the possibility for a troll, but it is harder to believe that's the case now

And yeah, go for it if you want, but to be honest I don't expect him to answer

Not entirely related but that's something I like about Nezumi too. She even went as far as to create and Enty (Japanese Patreon) only to promote her two blog sites. Sadly she is slowing down production due to health concerns but she's still there.
