Topic: [Question] - Is it possible to reverse image search Tumblr/Twitter/FurAffinity?

Posted under General

Thanks for your interest in my question. While going through the results of a drive recovery I had to do for a faulty drive, I noticed that PhotoRec had grabbed some particularly-good pictures that I would like to find the full-resolution versions of. However, when I submitted the pictures to Harry.Lu, it wasn't able to find them. Same with Google Images, ImageRaider and Baidu (I didn't even bother with SauceNAO because that mainly pulls up mangas and other non-related things).

However, with a large majority of pictures I reverse search on Google, I notice that come from Tumblr for whatever reason. A couple of the pictures show up on Twitter and FurAffinity, but a large sum of them from teh Tumblrs.

My overall question is,
Is it possible to reverse image search Tumblr, Twitter and FurAffinity respectively? I want to avoid using Google reverse search if possible.

If a picture is from Furaffinity, you can find it by searching for the file name (replace underscores with spaces).
FA doesn't have a reverse image search, or even an MD5 search.
It's been suggested multiple times, but the FA staff either ignores it or just says "No." (without giving a reason)

I don't think it would be too hard to automatically calculate the MD5 of a new upload and add it to the tags. Or to have a script go through the old images and do this.

It would be too hard for Fur Affinity staff.

lol i wonder how much drama and potential exoduses would be required for them to make this work.

Alright, I suppose that would work in a way for FurAffinity, but what about the other aformentioned platforms?

I don't believe Twitter or Tumblr have a reverse image search either, however you can just use Google. Download the image, open Google Images, and drag the image into the search bar.

Google cannot search NSFW accounts on Tumblr. The simple action of an NSFW flagged account liking or reblogging a post will mark the source account as NSFW as well, which makes it hard to even find SFW images.

Did you try turning off SafeSearch?

Or instead of downloading anything, simply use the URL. With some browsers or help of a plugin simply right click the image and search it.

SafeSearch off doesn't help if as the NSFW flag on Tumblr end makes them exclude them from search bots, so google doesn't index them. That's why sometimes google only finds e6 and tumbex for example as tumbex doesn't have this, but infinitescroll messes up things with tumbex. Luckily sometimes tumbex links are worth it.

I have said this to many users already, but one insanely good thing if you have no idea of source would be to put original filename in the description field. For example FA filenames still have timestamp, artist name and title, so if you saved something from there, it's pretty easy to backtrack from there - but only manually because FAs search engine does not let you restrict time other than restricting to new content...

I never have safesearch on. NSFW tumblrs require you to be logged in, and google, being a different website, is not logged in.
