Topic: e621 should charge people to create accounts, in addition to an email verification system

Posted under General

I have noticed that many users on here seem to be under the age of eighteen, with some openly stating their age and getting permabanned by the admins. So, I have come up with a solution to this problem of underage users circumventing e621's minimum age requirement:

Charge money to users who want to create an e621 account.

"WHAT!? but that would drive the vast majority of users off of the site!", many users suddenly object.

Not really. If the administration of e621 wants to make sure that the users on here are actually legal adults, then they should implement a price for creating an account. In addition to that, the email verification system (which would come before charging the money) should be able to request access to the email user's age shown on their account. If the age shown on the email account is under the age of eighteen, they will be redirected to a page that has a "ACCESS DENIED: You do not meet the minimum age requirement to join this site" notice.

"What would the price be to join the website?", you ask.

I'll leave that to the admins, but I would say somewhere between six to ten dollars would be a good price.

No.

Besides some of the underage bans are funny, see 18adultman, daddyworkshopmanager, and msamy

As long as the site is compliant with US and Arizona laws, this is a solution searching for a problem.

Updated by anonymous

Might as well rename the site to "Something Furry" then.

Updated by anonymous

E621 is already the best site for viewers (Artists lose out on the TWYS is all), but you add on a cost and suddenly people go to what polls and surveys say is the next best thing, losing all progress in the way of tags and searchability (FurAffinity).

remember the old joke of a bar's regular customer celebrating his birthday, and when the bartender asks how old he is, the patron says "just turned drinking age"?

reminds me of that.

i don't even think anybody would be willing to donate to this website, lest the credit card companies get narky about you spending money on a furry porn site.

You'd be surprised but there are quite a few people who have tried to donate to us.

I guess the main issue here is that the content hosted here is available to everyone with or without registering. If underaged user is accessing the site, they are doing so illegally at that point. So banning underage usually means they somehow managed to expose their age at which point staff will simply enforce the site being for adults only. Then again, it's not up to sites staff to screen everyones life story, meaning if they do not expose their personal information, then good for them.

Far better suggestion would be warning when accessing site for the first time that it does containt adult only content as many could be accessing the site from direct link trough search engine or someones link, even if they aren't minor they may not wish to see content hosted here. Or having automatic blacklist for explicit content. Or requiring inserting birthday when registering. There's tons of better suggestions how to improve the situation that does not require transactions to be made.

This seems like this would cause a few problems when upset artists come to submit a takedown and find out that they must pay money to a site they are never going to use again.

Takedowns have never required registering account to site.

This is also one of the reasons why artists are required to use the takedown system instead of registering account and using flagging as with takedown it can be verified that proper party is doing the takedown, where anyone can register artists nickname and say they are the artist.

I can only see the first one of those three. What were the ban reasons on the other two?

Was either of those three the guy I caught because he posted that his childhood as ruined from a CARS picture when that flick came out in like.. 2005?

your solution isn't a solution if it leads to the death of the site and in e621's case, a pay wall might just do it.

Charge money to users who want to create an e621 account.

yes, it would drive away a LOT of the users if not all of them. and age checking methods get bypassed all the time. i'm not aware of any such method that can't be bypassed in some way. and checking someones age on their email account is stupid as people can just use garbage info when making email accounts if they don't want to give any real personal info.

plus, why would anyone want to pay for porn? that's just... how dumb and/or desperate can one be if they're paying for porn?

i wonder how long it'll be till the next thread pops up where someone makes suggestions that would hurt/kill this site more than help it.

I don't know, I never bought anything before.
By accident, I stumbled upon this today http://www.furaffinity.net/view/24469004/ and I was like wow, that's a year and a little bit of salary. Not that I care how people spend their money, it was just hard to grasp to me that a picture is worth a year of work.

Maybe I should get into drawing and draw a picture or two every year.

In some shit hole, like everybody gets between 250-300$, some get even as low as 150$. But they say national average is ~500$ (well of course, when you have a guy with 1000000000000 and lots of with 200, that's 500 average).
3k would be yearly on minimum wage, but lots of people even work for less than that hmm, can't remember the term, it's when you work for someone but don't have contract or anything (which is illegal but it doesn't matter). Then again, you can also think you work legally but it turns out your employer doesn't pay any benefits (like pension and health insurance). Then when you get old, because you have no work done written on paper you get 100$ a month to "live" off until you die.
Plus, employers are practically not obligated to pay you salary (but you must pay your bills!), it's common that salary is late a month or a few (or forever, yup, you never get paid for your work) when that happens you have to sue (and good luck with that when you have no money lol) in which case court cases take an average of 7 years (in many cases nothing happens because 10 years pass so they are dismissed as too old). So you can work for free, or pay to work (pay your own salary yeah, too long story).
Place where make an appointment to make an appointment to go to the doctor, my aunt died while waiting to get to the doctor which was appointed next year.

And lots of other shit, long story short, you might want to move in because its cheap, but I want to move out!!!

My income isn't fixed to any location. I could literally work from the middle of the atlantic ocean. If I had adequate internet access there.

I can't help but think this would cut down on ban evades. Who would want to repeatedly shell out money just so they can have the last word in an argument?

Unfortunately, probably exactly the sort of people who get banned in the first place.

I'll take "Credit Card Fraud" for $1000, Alex.

No. The thing is boards like this should implement an I.D verification set up and block unregistered users from viewing certain parts of the site.

Validation process should work the same way adult subs on Reddit work. Only you hold a piece of paper with a valid I.D. This way you have poof of their age and proof that it's actually their card. A lot, yes. Unfair, yes. But it's a price to pay if you want to keep the things you love. Little Tommy is viewing nude furries on his computer, that he even shouldn't have in his room. Mother sees it and blames the site. Then tries to sue for something that's her own fault.

The problem with your idea is kids are smart and can work around that. "I'll just use mom's email and credit card." You have to use validation processes that will shed more light on the person.

hello, mythical concept known as common sense here. did you know that you should never give out any personal information over the internet?

i sure as heck ain't showing my ID card or anything else on the internet. not to anyone for any reason as i am not stupid.

the sheer number of ways that one act could be used against you or exploited is terrifying to think about.

this right here would kill this site faster than the greed...FAR faster. if reddit does that then i am amazed people are stupid enough to go along with such an idea.

then again... we have facebook which sells the personal info of their users to ad companies. so i really shouldn't be surprised that there are people out there who really are that stupid.

the only info they have on me here is my age, my username and password, and my email. the site staff never ask for more and even if they did, that's all they'd get and they probably know as much already. plus, if one of them did try to get that info it might not end too well for that person.

wait...actually, i don't remember if you need to enter your age when registering here. oh well, i've likely said how old i am several times in my years on this site.

Why so serious? It was just a suggestion and an opinion. You wouldn't believe how complicated my pass codes are. Also, "MrKranberryJam69". I could have used my full name like some silly people do. Or I could have used my other which can be searched back to my flickr stuff. I'm not cray-cray for the real-real. Just for the play-play ;). I have to take the Security+ exam so I can get certified.

.

It all goes to a site where you can look up people's records and other things. In fact, many people have tried to seek suit against it. But cannot. For it claims to be apart of the Man in Washington D.C.

Reddit does not do that... I did not write that it did. You hold a piece of paper up with the sub name, date, and username on it to a part of the body. What you chose to include is up to you. Mods there must view phallic genus per minute. Big ones, small ones, tiny ones, itty bitty wee ones.

rather unlikely that that's the only place all that info goes. i mean, how else will you get to see ads in your email and across the internet with names of real people on them?

ugh, it just keeps getting worse. Fno to the I.D. stuff, F no to giving out ANY personal info, and F no to giving a pic of myself, even just a partial one. i do not put that kind of stuff anywhere on the internet.

though..given my aunt & uncle use facebook i suppose that does give me cause to be concerned about certain things... stupid shitbook.

I don't approve of it nor wish to condone it, honestly. In fact I think people should stop posting pictures of their face and other things on the internet. But they are not going to. As their misguided mind thinks "the internet is totally safe!". So why even bother anymore. Lets put it all out there!

I tried to tell a man not post pictures of his daughters at the beach on the net one time. And he cussed me out and said that I was paranoid and all kinds of stuff. But when people collect those pictures and circulate them around the net. The blame can be put both ways. Flickr is full of that stuff now. Every time you report it, they take it down, and the people put more up. You have people that are even as bold to impersonate fitness trainers on there. And want others to engage in intimate chats through "their" YIM.

I'm not for it, honestly. In fact, a bar coding type system could work. But it would have to be very strict. You say that it would kill the site. So down the drain with it.

Just was throwing suggestions through thought out there.

Payments: no. Lots of us have trouble with money already. Myself for example, no income. I don't pay drone cuz I can't, and artists who use it exclusively hiding their content forever behind a paywall tend to get a swift and unceremonious block on FA or IB or a blacklist addition on here (e621). Many others do similar things because of paywalls.

I.D. verification: No To The NO. I for one don't feel like broadcasting my face, identification, or other such things on the internet. I have a gawd damn stalker for fluffies sake, I don't need them sending my face to the darknet with a bullseye on it thank you. Hell I don't even use CC when shopping online, I use preloaded gift cards I buy using cash. It's a violent of privacy.
If a kid gets in trouble for looking at Porn and the parents blame the site.... well it's the parents fault and no lawsuit case against the site would be able to proceed on that bases as this site in particular does what's needed when underage users are found. They're kicked immediately following evidence of underageness.

Having harsher signup processes will only discourage normal users, artists, etc.

However I did think of something like it that might help, or it might be silly. Not sure since I've been a little under the weather mentally.

Upon signing up you get an account but need to enable comments, voting etc using a dropdown menu on the profile setting page. This also would work for adult artwork... like most adult artwork sites ask if you want to see it first.
I never understood why e621 allows guests to view the Porn straight from the front page instead of hiding it away with an option to unhide it. Heck ive found my account name on Google listed next to posts here on e621 with fetishes I wouldn't broadcast unless it's someone I know well. Things that can get you linched. Makes me very uncomfortable at times (users favorites and comments shouldn't be displayed to public unless the users indicated they don't mind such, imo) ((edit: scratch that, might just be my uploads with my name tagged... though I've found lists with my name and others on European sites that act like a repository of comments and stuff... it's creepy as fuck! ©^©

I would like to know what e621's legal counsel said about that, if anything, because I do wonder how legal it is to do that.

Porn is treated as a commodity, you beat and go, that's it. There would be no point in somehow blocking guest users from it considering that there are multiple sites that do that already. FA in particular can be obnoxious about it because its literally the first thing you see when you log on without the filter on.

Except that banned underage users are "still" able to view the Porn on the site when banned. Or at least that's what occurred to me when I was banned way back when I was being a bossy backseating derp. The only difference was when I logged in there was a gigantic red "you've been banned" message with the reason, admin, and date it ended at the top of the screen where the "you have mail" pop-up is and couldn't interact with the site as far as personal stuff went (tags, comments, votes, favs, etc)
