Topic: The "Search for myself in comments" option shows comments with words that contain my username within

Posted under General

When I click the button to search myself in the comments it shows comments that contain the word "liat" within. It wouldn't be much of a problem if it weren't for words like "retaliate", "humiliating", "Goliat", "affiliation", etc.

Not sure if it's buggy, but the 'exact search' can be... weird at times.
You can add spaces to the search to narrow it down (for instance: liat), but clearly that doesn't work with the feature.

It also takes a long time to complete, like 10s+ where before it was instant. Something somewhere changed.

Mine pops up anytime someone says moon, regardless of context. They don’t even have to say my whole username.

The something that changed was the number of comments.

I don't think the time period of <0.5y equates to change from instant to 10s+ load time.

Even though I don't have data I believe that number of comments made before mid 2018 highly surpasses number of comments made after mid 2018.

At one point search for myself in comments was changed to use exact mode because that fixed some issues with punctuation in names. It's just slower. For names such as Liat, it would make sense to use fuzzy as it should give better results. I'm divided on if there should be a heuristic or not. Since it's a text based search it's never going to be that great.

It's times like this that I'm glad I have a name that no one accidentally uses.

I'm only affected by this if someone writes their comments backwards while stating the obvious fact that they doing that.
