Topic: Is there a way to blacklist WEBM’s?

Posted under General

I’m asking this because I mostly use my phone’s browser, which doesn’t support Webm.

type:webm

also probably type:swf since i don't think phone browsers support flash either.

Don't those not work because of being metatags, though?

Only range metatags don't work as far as I'm aware.
So score:<0 won't work but having score:-1, score:-2, score:-3, etc. works fine.
I know for a fact that both those and the rating: metatags work.

Im pretty sure darryus's method works. I was about to post that myself.

I believe Puffin supports flash. Does anyone know if it also supports WEBM?

I have been trying to add in MP4 and Gfycat sources on my uploads if they are available (as in there was one provided by artist or artists using service to begin with, rather than creting them myself). This way if you bump into webm post which you cannot view, you can check source or description if there's one available there.

iDevices are really uncommon with my real life and internet circles so I had to go my way to specifically ask who has any iDevice, but at least from what I gathered it does not - which is kinda weird because they are executing flash on their servers and sending it as video to user, playing webm would be even less stressful on their servers and would bypass apples limitations, unless that's yet another apples limitation on apps.

Thus far only thing I have heard working correctly is VLC, if someone has other methods I'm more than happy to add them on the list.

I know Firefox on android supports WebM, as does Chrome I think. I would imagine it not being too hard for Puffin to support WebM either.

Pretty much every single app on android supports WebM without any issues as long as you have everything up to date - I have actually yet to see any app that didn't play them. It's the iOS that is having extremely hard time on playing them.
