Topic: Rules on humans and humanoid figures

Posted under General

I am unsure on the specifics of what I can post, specifically regarding humans and humanoid figures. From what I can gather, just humans alone are not permitted, but things that look more or less completely human are: for example,"emoji_slut". Are there any other things I’m missing?

It must have at least one non-human feature (excluding skin colour) present to be allowed on its own here. Even elf ears are allowed.

That emoji_slut is dangerously close to being a "toony human".

Alternate color or gemstones embedded in their skin don't count as non-human. Things like pointed ears or a forked tongue can.

Yep. 'Lack of nose' is not what I'd consider to be a non-human feature, since it's often used as a style choice for toony humans. Kind of surprised that some of those were approved.

All uploads are reflected on guidelines, so for most basic answer, look at guidelines. There's seperate section for humans in there: uploading_guidelines#humans

If it looks like human, it's handled like one. Because of Equestria girls, Steven universe, The simpsons and the like, skin color does not make character non-human and the difference has to be physical which cannot be considered something like artistic design, e.g. chibi style drawn human is still human, even if the head is half of the body size and they may lack nose.

Because emojis are based on human look and mostly difference comes down to skin color being simpsons yellow, those are generally deleted as humans.

Might add that the characters in these submissions also dont have ears, on their own features like no nose, colored skin, no ears,pseudo-hair and sphere shaped heads dont account for much but the combination of all do give a fairly distinct non-human appearance which is probably why they were approved...

As far as I can tell, what counts as a nonhuman feature is entirely arbitrary. I've mostly given up on trying to understand why some things are considered nonhuman and other things aren't,

Unfortunately, some amount of arbitrariness is probably necessary on this subject. I feel like if that were recognized and accepted, we could have a better overall system, but I've made that point before and probably ought not rehash it.

Thankfully this doesn't particularly affect me, since I've got the relevant tags blacklisted and have no interest in uploading any of that sort of art in the first place. But for you... It's a gamble. I see absolutely no way to know what would count beyond an admin ruling on whether a specific trait is sufficient or not.

I guess this kinda does summarize it. Because couple biggest examples:

Link, the reason why this character can be deemed relevant is because of their pointy ears, which is clearly part of characters physical being and that's pretty impossible to confuse into artistic choise, because lack of nose can be cartoony design, but ears aren't drawn pointy even in most cartoony looking stuff.

Shygirl, the character is pretty much humanized shyguy with hoodie and mask. As long as it's visible that mask is part of character instead of just regular mask they pass.

Now let's take scenario where Link is suddenly drawn with humanlike ears or with their head hidden away or shygirl is being fucked silly but their mask stays generic looking. You yourself know the lore of both and we do have bunch of approved posts on both, but this is the kind of thing you might not realize this as you are just uploading content that you deem to be good quality and acceptable.

I have always said to users that even if humanoids are accepted, these are still far away from the sites main focus which is furries and anthropomorphic characters. You are taking a gamble with humanoids which are closer to humans than they are towards fictional species like elves and orcs - and because of the skin color exclusion even orcs are sometimes under fire already, so fine tuning that rule to be consistant and clear is nightmare.

And this is also good reminder that the upload limit even though it seems low, is extremely forgiving. We have had so many users who managed to upload over 100 posts which all had to be deleted and replaced before hitting 0 upload limit and even then staff can raise it manually, so even if you do take gamble and it fails, please understand the situation, don't take it as bad mark. Almost every user, even artists uploading their own work, has deleted posts on their account.

To add to what Mairo said... we're also all human and sometimes we make mistakes.

Especially if something is really cute :D

Or awful

Sometimes the bad ones are worse because you're trying not to be overly biased because you hate this thing. XD

also what looks like a non-human to one janitor might not look like a non-human to another.

If you ever feel that there's been an error, feel free to ask-- we make mistakes!
