Topic: Using Tropes as Tags

Compared to derpibooru, what are your stances on using tropes, specifically tropes from TV Tropes, as tags?

it would likely depend on the trope???

Bring some examples to the class, please :)

Yeah, that's way too vague to comment about.
We already use some tropes as tags, such as animate inanimate, but dunno if that's what you meant.

There are also stuff which is notable enough to be recognizeable, like just_right or loss.

But I'm also unsure what is meant with "trope" with this thread.

Tropes such as "mary sue" or "five man band" or "hilarious in hindsight", and other Tropes of Legend.

Mary sue -- very much not. we have sparkledog (though most of those don't seem at all like sparkledogs to me) and original_character_do_not_steal for especially special characters. --over all, though... Mary Sue is kind of a rude thing anyway. Especially in the furry community, most characters are author inserts to some degree, if not straight fursonas. Mary sue's usually meant to put down someone's character and tha'ts just not fun, y'know? Plus, Mary sue typically involves a lot of things we can't see -- like being Smart and special and talented in a lot of ways-- not just pretty. not very TWYS-able.

brief side tangent

most people use mary sue to describe... well... the last time I heard someone call a character a mary sue, it was a guy saying that the character in this book we were both reading was unrealistic. No way, he claimed, could this GIRL beat up MEN. So: mary sue.

Said girl was 19ish, had been going to a school SPECIFICALLY for combat for half of her life, to become, essentially, a career soldier. said man was a middle aged politician.

Some of them might be applicable here, but most of these are about STORY tropes, not visual tropes. So, like... we'd be willing to consider it, but bring more to the table like... 'I think these 5 posts are a good example of 'trope name' which is used to describe...' y'know? :)

What's Derpibooru stance on tropes by the way, for comparison sake?

Applicable (visual) tropes are widely used as tags. I mean, anthro is a trope tag, kinda, see AnthropomorphicAnimal. Some tags link to appropriate TVT pages, like meme for instance. Some tags are tropes but named differently.

convenient_censorship vs SceneryCensor
humanoid_feet vs HumanlikeFootAnatomy
humanoid_hands vs HumanlikeHandAnatomy
feather_hands vs FeatherFingers
flora_fauna vs PlantAliens
heterochromia vs MismatchedEyes

Also Yiff is a trope apparently.

It should be done sparingly and on a case by case basis, like other subjective joke tags.
