Topic: New to posting pictures...

Posted under General

Ok... I just posted my first picture. I've read and read and read on how to do it right, but there is still some confusion on my end. First question is how do I make the "artist" say my user name? Second, how would I go about tagging the characters as their names. I know if it's a simple name it would be read like "George(GeorgeTheFox)." Also, is posting really high resolution pictures frowned apon? From reading some comments on other posts, people seem not to like it... I guess what I'm asking is, is there such a thing as "too-high" a resolution.

Thanks in advanced, and hopefully I posted this in the right place!

1. https://e621.net/forum/show/265727
2. it shouldnt be george(georgethefox), it should be george_(georgethefox)
3. higher resolution is preferred here since this site is for archiving art and you are in fact supposed to upload the highest available resolution (excluding pirated content obvs). if someone has troubles with viewing it because it is too big, there are display options in settings for this purpose

basically, you have a tag: Georgethefox. By default, every tag is a GENERAL tag. If you put something like artist:georgethefox it'll change the 'tag type' to 'artist'. now anyone who tags georgethefox will have it automatically change to an artist-tag, without needing to type artist: at the start.

Second, how would I go about tagging the characters as their names. I know if it's a simple name it would be read like "George(GeorgeTheFox)."

like above, only you replace artist with char: ... and you replace any spaces with an underscore. so: char:george_(georgethefox) and after the first time, it should be automatic for everyone else, or future pictures :)

Otherwise, if your character has a last name... char:george_mcflufferfox :) ... we mostly just try to avoid anything too.... generic. :)

Generally not really, as far as I know. There's a setting (my account -> settings -> posts/tags) called "Image Resize mode" and, basically, if you change it to show reduced samples they'll get a nice, small preview of any image that they're looking at. Which is basically to say, they're whining about the room being too dark when they could reach over and turn on the light. :P

That said, it's never nice when a picture is artificially large -- a lot of noise or texturing can make a picture larger than it needs to be, however, our goal is to save the largest copies available. What seems hugenormous today might be really tiny in the future! (I have a collection of furry art from the 90's... it's... depressingly tiny.)

But other people know a lot more about file sizes and whatnot than I do. :)

Have a fantabulous day!

No. Just tag absurd_res or superabsurd_res if they're applicable. The latter at least is relevant to memory / tab management, since a single image in that category can take up more than 380mb of memory.

to clarify on something, the meta tagging only works for member level users of the site when the tag they are trying to make a character or artist has never been on the site yet, otherwise you will get an error message. If that happens you will need to go to the tags section at the top of the page, input the name of the tag your wishing to change, and change the tag type manually

McFlufferfox IS rather fetching you know? ;)

(if it makes you feel better, most of my OCs haven't 'bothered' with last names either. :) )

My characters also lack last names for the most part. There are a few exceptions though.

(FFXI)
Kat Purra (Mithra)

(BloodRayne/PSO crossover)
Cammy "Lag" Flowen

(Gedol Odyssey)
Bob the Loudmouth Mime
Billy Blaze Commander Keen returns but older, and Ranger class.
Hopelessly Drunk Ronald Grump
Unlucky Bones Jones
