Topic: Uploading higher res images of existing images

Posted under General

Read a bunch of the FAQs and wiki and can't find a step by step guide on what to do when one wants to upload a higher res picture of something, I'm uploading two higher res images but do I now just flag the previous one for deletion? I don't want the person who originally uploaded the lower res one to feel invalidated or like he wasted his time though...

After uploading, copy the number ID given to your upload. Then click on 'Flag for deletion' on the smaller res image. Choose the 'This post is a duplicate...' reason and enter the ID of the higher res image in the box. Click submit.

That's all.

This is why I always add in description of Better version of post #ID so that people are aware that it was posted before I did.

Generally speaking, who uploads content is irrelevant information for the most part, so just aim to provide highest quality copy within given guidelines and don't feel guilty on "stealing" others posts.

Okay, I did it but now looking at it you can't really tell unless you zoom in on a few pixely areas, or by how much it zooms in when you click, or check the files size/dimensions, should I still do it and leave them up or not

Are you talking about the Halo picture? It's a higher resolution so that matters quite a bit.

I flagged the smaller ones for deletion, I hope that's okay, the new ones are only a bit bigger but they're the original full res twitter image rather than a screencap

We really do want the largest public ally available copy, so don't worry about how the other person feels, okay? <3 I mean, it sucks for them, but this is how we want the site to work.

Even it it's only "a little bigger" it matters! plus sometimes it's not just the width and length of a picture, but how the picture is saved. Sometimes something only a "little bigger" can be a whole lot better!

So don't worry about it and go for it when you see it :)

and if anyone gives you trouble for "stealing their uploads" or anything, feel free to talk to one of the staff about it.
