The amount of content on e621 keeps growing, but the capacity on my blacklist, for the stuff i have no interest in, does not.

But what can i do about it though? Is it possible to get some extension or expansion for the individual users blacklist limit in some way, or is that stuff hardcoded?

i dont have actual solution, but you could try to clean up it a little.

- try to make entries more compact. like instead of blacklisting apple rating:e and apple rating:q you should blacklist apple -rating:s, and make sure that one entry doesnt already cover other entry (like if you have fruit blacklisted, you dont need to blacklist apple because apple implies to fruit)

- go through possible artists tags. see if the artist's is actively being uploaded anymore, and remove it if there havent been new content in a good while. see if any other blacklist entries already covers majority of the artist's content. no need to be keeping it around if other blacklist entry already hides it. see if the reason why you blacklisted them in first place doesnt apply anymore. also check if the artist has made themselves dnp, no need to blacklist artist if their stuff cannot be uploaded here

I haven't tested it myself, but purple.beastie made this userscript to work around the character limit on blacklists.

It LOOKS like the user's blacklist is mostly artist names, yikes.

It's pretty hard to pare that down.

The best suggestion I can offer is to maybe spend an evening cleaning it up.

Some of your disliked artists might have had all of the material deleted, or, well, quite bluntly, might only have a few posts on the site.

(randomly searching, I found 'minuteearth' which had 1 series of 17 pictures uploaded over a period of 10 minutes that were deleted for being screencaps. It's unlikely that there'll be more uploaded under that artist name.)

I admit, it's not ideal, though. I'm not sure if there's a smoother solution for you, though.

I'm surprised that there is a limit for the blacklist, although I wouldn't know as I don't have a need for it. I'd say forget about using it entirely and just don't look at stuff that doesn't interest you. I know applying the function can make browsing easier, but the variation of specific tags within this websites content is only going to keep increasing. It seems much simpler to leave it and just search for tags instead if there's certain things that are preferred.

And that's my point. Maybe nine-ten years ago, the current limit would most likely have seemed like alot and was probably very sufficient. But truth is, the amount of content AND tags keeps growing on.

It's a limit of 3900 characters, roughly. that's about 500 8-character tags, so most users don't run into the limit. They use the blacklist for removing scat or cubs from their viewing experience... andin those cases, most people can refine their blacklist to be more elegant.

But when your blacklist is basically just... artist names, there's no way to par that down.

but most people don't have that problem. It's not really a "increase in tag variation" -- except in that there are new artists posted every day.

(it's not to say that Dude is "doing it wrong" or anything, just that most users use the feature differently than he is. Is there an arguement for increasing the limit? Sure. But I don't know anything about it: it might be impossible. Or incredibly difficult. I'm sure we'll look into it though.)
