Topic: Got a larger resolution twitter :orig source, than the original file the artist gave me to upload.

Posted under General

There is an artist I talk to, whom gives me their full sized .png files to upload to e6, one of the files they gave me ended up being smaller than the same image they uploaded to twitter, when I asked them about this they were confused. Saying that the twitter image was larger than what they made.

Which begs the question, has twitter started making images larger than they actually are? or has this always been a problem without people realizing it? After all how many .jpg images have we uploaded from twitter where they were to replace images from other sites because they were larger?

I'm pretty sure Better Version flags get manually examined for artifacts and signs of upscaling.

Smaller/Larger as in resolution? compression? filesize?

resolution, for example
post #1855347

we had a discussion about this image, the size that they made it and gave me for upload is 2.5k but twitter :orig is 3125x3675 larger than they drew it, and they have no idea as to why it's so much bigger, even saying that it looked upscaled on twitter.

(Ya, I uploaded that a while ago but forgot to broach the subject until now.)

as far as i can tell by squinting at that jpg artifact mess, the twitter version does not seem to show any visual signs of being upscaled, so the artist probably just gave you a downscaled version.

they didn't though. They made the image in 2500, and was confused that the image was that large. All the images by Zkelle I've shared have been in their fullsize versions. The downscales they do are the 1200 size which they usually post to FA and Twitter, I get full size because I asked for the highest res they are willing to make public, so that I could insure the best version is archived, and they were okay with the full size version. note that the twitter version is also a really weird size format.

I noticed the Twitter version doesn't have their signature, leading me to believe they accidentaly uploaded an unfinished version which was enlarged for whichever reason.

It's possible to search Windows files by resolution size, and 3rd party manager can do it too, such as Treesize.

OK, first of all, I'm going to get irritated by such loaded title of the forum thread when you are providing only single individual example from single artist.

It's always bit harder to determine when image gets compressed, but the twitter copy does not seem upscaled - and now actually also added the twitter source to given post as I had to manually go and look for it because nobody linked it.

This definitely does feel more like that artists workflow is to work with massive canvas sizes and then export the whole thing with specific resolutions, resulting sharper image while hiding smaller imperfections, but for some reason with this particular image they exported with higher resolution (or original canvas size) and never realized it because accessing :orig rarely happens when browsing twitter regularly.

Sorry about the title being loaded. Though it's true that they didn't even know URL resolution formating was a thing. Though that being said, it still confuses me that their canvas was 2500 and the image ended up that big.
