Topic: why aren't sculptures allowed?

Posted under General

as someone who frequents this site and is also a sculptor I've been wondering for awhile why sculptures aren't allowed to be uploaded here anymore.

They're not allowed? Gosh, that's news to me.

If you're seeing any uploaded sculptures being deleted, it might be due to a low-quality photograph.
Turns out checking deletion reasons might be a really good idea.

Deletion reason field
This post was deleted by Millcore. Reason: Looks nice but we don't take photos of sculptures

I can understand having lighting and overall quality requirements but a lot of this seems like a blanket ban. In the last three years there's only a single approved post that's a first-hand still photo.

Irrelevant photographs: Any photograph that isn't of traditional artwork or manipulated to contain furry characters.
photos of fursuits, statues, plushies, dakimakura, tattoos, graffiti, painted plates, etc. are all irrelevant to us

taken from the quality standards.

Essentially they only want drawings/ 3d stuffs

I took a dive into that one post I mentioned and apparently it's allowed because it was BVATS of a grandfathered post.

CG stuff seems to be accepted just fine, if you're determined a easy workaround would be to take a bunch of photos of the sculpture, use some sort of photogrammetry software, and then render it out.
No sculptures seems to be one of the more baffling rules here, as with anything no low quality fine, but why is the physically three dimensional invalid?

It's not that sculptures are not allowed. It's that photography is not allowed (unless it's heavily edited or used as element in digital art). And posts of irl sculptures tend to you know, be photographs.

Mostly just focus of the website. Our aim is to be digital artwork archive, but there's exceptions for extremely well digitized physical artwork, usually meaning scanning.

I know this sounds kinda ridiculous, but the line has to be somewhere. If we allow sculptures then why not fursuits? They require as much if not more artistic talent and hard work than sculptures.

OK, but, quoting guidelines aren't explaining why they aren't allowed, it just explains that they aren't.

Photographs are actually allowed, but because the level of digitization quality we have is pretty high and majority will use their goddamn smartphone in bathroom lighting, it's simply easier to say that they're not and use a goddamn scanner.

Also as we offer the files as they were uploaded, we don't optimize or strip data from them like many other services do, so there are problems like with EXIF data where rotations do not apply to embed on page and pinpoint accurate GPS location data. Rarely do people know how to rotate losslessly (if they didn't shoot RAW) or scrub the personal information out.
