Topic: Sometimes I wish the min. requirement for tags on new posts was more significant

Posted under General

Officially, the minimum number of tags that a new post needs is 4. This is a non-issue; someone could just tag dog and the implied tags alone would let it meet the requirements. If someone's posting a lot here, they should be expected to be able to tag things properly. Otherwise, the buck gets passed to other people, and all the tags in the world won't mean a thing with the constant stream of new posts. Any increase to the minimum won't suddenly make undertagging disappear, but it would curb it at least a little bit.

Isn't the requirement 4 general category tags, not just any tags? I might be misremembering something.
But yes, I agree. IMHO, the minimum should be raised to 10. Maybe, that would motivate people to at least tag the number of characters and their genders.

Actually, I wanted to suggest 15 as a minimum. Even for the esoteric, rough-draft posts that should be reachable.

I think 10 tags minimum is the best for overall tagging and begginners who wouldn't know the tag system as you can cover a lot of basics with 10 tags, and should you be tagging things like, clothing species and color those numbers could even triple via implications

in my opinion the requirements should probably be something like this:

- 1 artist tag
- 1 species tag (for anything other than zero_pictured posts, preferably it'd be more specific than mammal)
- 5-7 general tags

you pretty much have to have these separate since if the character is like a fennec_humanoid or something you can hit 10 with literally just one tag.

I think there's already a soft requirement along those lines, IIRC some of the janitors have said they're much less likely to approve something if there's no artist tag or source, but having it in ink would be ideal.
