Topic: Enforcing rules

Posted under General

I read some mainly emotional fueled threads about "unjustified" marks or getting singled out with getting punished and such.
I don't want to discuss if that is true or not here. If there are people who want to talk about that just open another thread while keeping everything well behaved. I don't believe any admins here are truly ill intended.

Anyways to get to the point I write this is. I notice many times that there are people who are defending the point of the admin, while even doing things which could be a crime in some countries, like encouraging someone to kill himself.
Let's also just skip that extreme case. Many more of such comments are just never intended to solve anything and in my subjective opinion with an clearly ill intention against the offender. In my eyes such behaviors would be worth reporting and getting punished.

So should/could such comments be reported or just left because there are many other comments or similar problems more worth the time and effort?

Rules exist and are agreed to upon signing up for the site. E is allowed to punish people for rules they set out. And no, telling someone to kill themselves would not be allowed, as it is explicitly against one of those rules.

The forums are looser on the rules, since they belive discussion should be allowed here, if that is where your confusion lies

Often times, these comments were either missed or were not taken seriously.
If you feel that these comments are out of line/inflammatory, then yes, you can report it even if it's "siding with the admins".
I know people used to get records for 'feeding the trolls', but I'm not sure how much this is being enforced now.

I'd like to know where you saw that on our site because that's against the rules and will punished, regardless from who it comes or towards whoever it is aimed.

Also yes, feel free to report those things in general, responding in kind to a troll is still most likely trolling, or at the very least disruptive.

The one I had in mind is kinda like this
A: I've the knife at my wrist already. What are you talking about?
B: If you mean that literally just do it. Nobody will miss you. If you mean it metaphorically etc.

I know where that was, so I could report that while refraining from posting it here.

Anyways what I fear is that many times it's not really worth the report maybe or I misunderstand things or something. So I was not sure if I should bother myself and the admins with useless reports, but if that is no problem I'll see that I report some stuff.

So you're talking about the one I was thinking. That one isn't encouraging suicide, it's just illuminating results in a what-if scenario. I'd feel differently about it if he'd worded it more directly like "Go ahead and do it, see if we care" but his wording is definitely entirely passive.

You see my concern. After reading this I could say maybe it's my misunderstanding or lack in english or such but I would've maybe reported that as such.
These could get more in comparison to other users reporting if it's me reporting. So I always just ignored things I saw worthy to report.

==This is my own personal view== :
Even on my view (whose lack of understanding of English is more limited), I guess that wonder if the post is not unnecessary.
..."Needy"? , "Attention-seeker"? , "Look-at-me"? Anyway, they does not seem to me to be useful in e6.

However anything other than reporting it ,(directly or otherwise), might be "feeding the troll".
And even if someone say "It's causing a drama" by this way of talking,
then I can't deny I'm wrong. So basically I'm ignoring A:B: both of them, too.

[--- GET OUT if you can Not follow the rules! Or obey us in anything ] ← I HATE this way
※just the story of my Internet. Such an act counts as "feeding the troll" In my country.
This is the saying : Those who feed "someone who are feeding the trolls" are Also trolls.

Well, I Don't and Want to report that way because I understand the feeling of anger at bad behavior,
But might say "Let's follow the rules".

With that being said, I can't ignore them if they keep repeating such bad behavior. if not I would be imagining things for admins to see in the ticket center...

Updated

I'd say report it anyway. The moderators will look at it and use their own discretion, but they can't do that unless someone tells them about it, and it might indeed be something they should deal with. As long as you've reported it in good faith, you shouldn't get in trouble for it.

That's how I see it, too, even to the point of reporting people who repeat such behavior, but I also don't and don't want to keep track of people doing "reportable" things more than once.

I think I'll do that.
However my bigger concern than it leading to problems for me is that it will lead to more useless reports and more work for admins. If they use their power up while handling reports I would prefer them working on other things on the site. It could have a positive side to it, too, like admins being able to see, that their community likes the site and put also effort into keeping it clean and comfortable but I was not sure which weighs more.

In a nutshell I'll see that I report some things and in worst case I'll get a response and will change my behavior accordingly.
Also thx everybody :D
