Topic: Narwhals going extinct

Posted under Off Topic

Due to melting ice and other environmental factors, narwhals may soon go extinct. This is a shame, because narwhals are so awesome.

Narwhals, narwhals,
Swimming in the ocean,
Causing a commotion,
'Cause they are so awesome

Pretty useless species, good riddance,

But with them gone how will we make new shish kebabs?

Everything's going extinct; we're just accelerating the process.

Well, more specifically, it's ice that's not supposed to be melting.

I blame the narwhals.

Honestly there is so much species on earth we can afford to have 1/2K go extinct, as long as we are not wiped out by a pandemic or overpopulation narwhals can do what they want.

True that one species dying might not mean much, but I'm guessing that wiping out hundreds of thousands of unique species in the past century without even noticing has a good chance of biting us in the ass.

They are often killed by suffocation when the sea ice freezes over. Another cause of fatality, specifically among young whales, is starvation. The current population of the narwhal is about 75,000, so narwhals qualify for Near Threatened under the criterion of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
