Topic: [Feature] Automatically reject reports of old comments

Posted under General

Requested feature overview description.
When someone reports a comment older than a month (or some other value), e621 could automatically display an error message along the lines of "This comment is older than a month, so it's not reportable".

Or it could just be a warning message

  • because something can slip under the radar for a month
  • because people can still edit their comments even after a month (as far as I can tell)

Why would it be useful?
It would mean less work for the admins.
As far as I can tell, the admins always reject tickets for old comments.
The cut-off value currently seems to be a month.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Posts, Comments

Sometimes it's appropriate to report old comments, if they state something illegal (e.g. admitting to bestiality or drugs) or link to a page that's since been hijacked by malware. For "normal" infractions like creepy comments, the cutoff is about one month, though admins have discretion for people who are trying to skirt the line.

Given I've reported comments that seemingly slipped through the cracks linking close-up photos of animal vaginas? No, you need to be able to report shit regardless of how old it is.

Can we at least agree that reporting a user who has already been permanently banned, for the same thing they were permabanned for, is a waste of everybody's time?

Yes, but does that happen that often?

I doubt that mods have time to check all comments made by users whom they ban, so there's always a chance some "undesirable" content might go past them unnoticed.

Nope. If they still have comments that link to malicious sites, those comments are still 100% worth reporting.

A warning message seems fair. The warning could state something along the lines of:

Wait a minute! This comment is over two months old. If you're reporting it for a matter such as "creepy comment," you're wasting your time. Only go through with the report it if it's mentioning law breaking or linking to something now malicious.
