Topic: Thoughts on Trans characters with sexual dimorphism? and also how to change my own character?

Posted under General

So I was thinking of getting back into drawing when I realized that my fursona hasn't really changed since I've started transitioning MTF. I want my character to follow suit, but my fursona is a ram. My first thought is that I'd have them shave their curling horns down to match the shorter female's horns. Or is there some other way I could handle this?

But this also got me thinking; How would furries handle transitioning when some species have more extreme sexual dimorphism?

Horns and any "mane" like some goats have would certainly be an option.

The same way you'd handle Arnold Schwarzenegger telling you he's a woman. "Okay, please don't hit me.". It'd also depend 100% on the species, granted. Birds would never pass within their own species, but would have zero difficulty with non-avian communities, as an example.

But then what if they're more submissive or a femboy, like mine was? Can't exactly threaten others into submission like that unless you were aggressive AND ripped.

You don't think fur's would find a way to pass anyway? Like, for some of the avian species where the males are colorful but the females are not. Wouldn't MtF use dyes to mute their feather colors while FtM would use dyes to add color?

Only times I could imagine it's a "will never pass" scenario is for cases like the angler fish. Where the female looks one way... and the male is 1/100th the size and shaped extremely differently.

Look at the differences between male quetzals, turkeys, capercaillies, peafowl, and birds of paradise. Some avians have such massive, drastic dimporphism that, while not directly comparable to parasitic insemination like anglersfish, are still impossible to mistake.
I imagine they would likely feel more comfortable outside the company of other avians, as the traits they show effectively reversed to what our human perception is, drab females, fabulous males and all that. Some things that would need to be done to change like that would be potentially lethal, given just how sensitive avians are to dyes. On the upside, avians can pretty much sound however they want.

Well, that or they could get a job working for Orangina as exotic dancers, I guess.

Could be an interesting concept to explore in fiction, certainly. Spotted Hyenas probably wouldn't give much of a shit, though, the lines there are heavily blurred enough to begin with that I could see that being one of the more openly welcoming sorts to hang around with.
