Records decay within 6 months. Negative records decay to neutral ones, and neutral ones get removed.
As long as there aren't any further infractions.

As for getting a positive record – those are a lot more rare, and usually require you to contribute significantly to the site.
Or to sacrifice your firstborn, that works too.

I dunno, I got two without any child sacrifice.
It definitely was an ordeal though. Still is. If you want to increase your odds of achieving it without sacrifice, keep a look out for problem tags and projects, make sure you understand which way it goes, and keep up the work on it.

To clarify: since you were (accidentally) punished twice for the same thing, the negative record was removed.
