Topic: If a character is not physically presented in an image, should the character tag be applied?

Posted under General

I'm talking about posts like post #3058926, the character dio brando himself is not presented, should the character tag still be applied?

Update: ty, I removed the tag.

i'm pretty sure the dio_brando tag should be there because the character is doing his pose. i know that characters are tagged if other characters are cosplaying as them, so i don't see why this would be any different. at the very least, it should have the it_was_me_dio tag.

Nope, if the actual character (or a recognisable part of them) is not present in the image, their character tag should not be tagged.
In most cases, it would be more appropriate to tag their respective meme tags instead; e.g., black_betty_(meme) & betty_the_monitor.

do clothes count as "a part of them" or am i remembering wrong?

if a character is cosplaying both the featured character and the cosplayed character would be tagged.
example: post #1088232 this posts is tagged both with amy_rose, the featured character, and amitie, the cosplay.
in some cases this can apply to species tags as well, see: post #2473366 I think this is generally only used with species from fictional properties, there's usually better tags for fursuits, fake ears, etc. for real-world animals.

The it_was_me_dio tag would be sufficient, but a character has to be visually recognizable as the character, whether as the character themself or physically resembling them as a cosplayer would be to be tagged as the character. Otherwise, they're just making poses and gesticulating in a manner that's sometimes associated with the character, but not necessarily, like the yoga pose that's similar to the jack-o'_pose.
