Topic: Can a post be considered "overtagged" ?

Posted under General

Hi. I've been writing a list of E6 tags for an image, and i've been wondering if a post could be considered "overtagged" (have too many tags).

The image is quite simple:

  • Flat grey background
  • Female character being penetrated by a disembodied penis
  • Some other objects visible in the scene.

I've managed to find 68 tags for that (excluding artist, character and meta tags).

I haven't posted anything onto E6 before, so sorry if i sound like a complete idiot, but i just want to know if i should remove some tags before posting.

Typically, as long as all of the tags on an image are valid, the more tags the better.

high level tagging isn't just a boon for the image, it's a boon for the taggers as it often leads to learning about new tags. At least that's the case for me.

68 tags is nothing. I'm not even that thorough a tagger and I'm fairly certain I've exceeded that before.

It's not that hard if you use the related tags feature.

On one hand, there's objectively no such thing, as long as all of the tags are valid and see some amount of use (they aren't redundant niche tags added to a handful of posts, or invented for a single post). A lot of tags could use more descriptive costume tags or action/pose tags, that people forget, or think are unimportant.

On the other hand, personally speaking, images where a character (or worse, multiple characters) is monochromatic and yet the colour of every body part under the sun is tagged, along with multiple body part tags for glistening_x monotone_x is pretty tedious and redundant.

Though welcomed, some don't like too many tags as it may be hard to moderate which is valid and which is not.
I normally tag around 150 tags per post, but most of it does come from colour tags on body parts and objects.
