I'm have an odd issue. I search a specific tag, follow it everyday to see what's new in it. I keep running into the problem where it seems not to be putting up all the images for some reason, a week or two after I search new images will pop up mixed in with the images I viewed before.

By that I mean that an image that's supposed to have been there for over a week never showed up on the list until today, but it's mixed in with the stuff that IS over a week old and nearly off the bottom of the first page.

This is not a new issue BTW, it's been like this since I started coming to e621 ages ago(I just never bothered with the forum till recently). Is this normal or is this a glitch?

Could these be images that were uploaded a while ago, but only recently filed under the tag you're searching for?

I'm not sure of this, but it's entirely possible that images pending approval don't show up in searches -- only the main listing.

... But I also remember testing that (and it not being entirely correct), so I'm not really sure. I think the tag cataloging is just randomly laggy or something -- I know the tag counts lags by a day or so. :(

That would be my guess. Beep, do you have an example of one of these "fashionably late" images? Have you checked the tag history to see whether the tag was only recently added?

this is the latest late image. I search the "anal penitration" tag daily and the ones left and right of it were there all along, then just a few days ago this one popped up. If it's a case of pending approval images not showing up till they've been approved or such, then it's kinda a shame in a way cause that means by tag search one can easily miss some really great images due to them being buried back in pages of stuff you've already looked though.

Mystery solved, then. Images only appear when they they've been tagged properly.

Oy vey...lovely...means I've missed bunches of images due to tags not being added until a later date. new images AND newly tagged images should be put at the front of the list, that way you don't miss images.

Eh. I can't say I agree with that. I think a large fraction of the userbase would get annoyed if images could be bumped by being tagged. It'd be like bumping old forum threads, only with the site's main content.

The easiest solution to this problem would be for you to get involved with tagging yourself. Quality tagging, like quality uploading, is almost entirely up to us: the average users here on e621. The admins and moderators may keep us on track, pay the bills, and keep everything running, but allot of the direction and maintenance is on our shoulders as well. And as much time as they volunteer to provide this faptastic gallery for us, we owe at least some minor effort in return.

Tags will be missed, used incorrectly, vandalized, debated over, added one minute and removed by another person the next... With so many editing options available to the public, there's no way around it. Which is why some of the folks that have been around for a while and have a little free time on their hands ought to pitch in. Not to mention, if you patrolled the first few pages of fresh uploads every day and just tagged the ones that catch your personal interest, everything new under anal_penetration would be familiar to you.

TLDR: Stop blaming the system, step up to the plate, and tag some shit too.

Yup, yup, agreed with hellacious. There aren't that many posts uploaded each day--a few pages... and as long as you keep your blacklist up to date, you won't see the things you don't want to see.

Although, another thing to keep in mind, if you're just THAT opposed to tagging some shit, take comfort in the fact that anal_penetration is probably one of the more common tags around here and a really easy to spot tag. it's pretty black and white in most cases is there's some anal play going on so as long as you look at the most recent page, and skim back and page or two, you shouldn't miss anything.

But, seriously, consider taking up the tagger's mantle. It's not that hard. :D And you might discover some new tags that you'd never heard about before, or some kinks you didn't know you were into :D
