is there any difference between images. an flash. and an vid?

Well, an image is either a static/non-moving picture(.jpg/.jpeg/.png) or a short moving one(.gif).

A Flash is most likely .swf, with it being relatively larger in size compared to images. It could be a flash animation or a flash game.

A Video is a movie(.webm/.flv/.mp4) that could be just a conversion from a .swf(to load/preview better) or an animation.

Oh that's simple, just see the thumbnail of your post from the outside, it will either say "Flash" or "Video"

Like this,

post #710108 <- flash post #710110 <- video

Or when you're viewing it, videos will have a play button in the middle while flashes will normally play on its own.
