Topic: Worst Fears/Phobias

Posted under Off Topic

A straightforward topic, and I'm not hesitant to admit I have multiple phobias. The worst experience of my life, probably. I wake up one morning, ready for what I usually do (video gaming 24/7 and e621). I literally stare horrified at this billion-legged insect on my bed 5 feet in front of me. If I screamed, I would have died of horror....I did anyway, flinging sheets all over the place. I finally manage to fling myself out of bed, sprinting immediately to the nearest thing I could stand on; minutes later, the thing crawling about 50 fucking mph to the nearest crack it could escape to.

I figured out later on it was a centipede (literally translated hundred-footed) It was my first unfortunately not the last of tons of encounters with the "bastards with all the legs"

I slept upstairs on the couch.... for two and a half months....

I can't kill nor look at or be near any of thosr things (the legs and their speed make em creepy for me)

......Uuggh.....chilopodophobic dragon here :'(

My top five phobias.
1. Cats.
2. Patchi.
3. Patchis dumb face.
4. Cats that are alive.
5. Not releasing stinky farts onto Patchis dumb face.

The only thing that scares me are spiders, especially the really big hairy ones. Imagine waking up with THAT at the edge of your bed. (Never happened to me and I never want it to happen.)

The hairy ones? Those are tarantulas. I wouldnt mind having one of those as a pet. Only the harmless ones seem friendly.

On the other hand, then you dont wanna see this

Bravery doesn't mean that you're never afraid. Bravery is continuing to go forward in spite of the fears that you have.

Well, I cant seem to go forward in life without facing those hundred-legged things (centipedes) and then I cant toughen up enough to go forward and kill one of those damn things.XC

Fear of man-made underwater (submerged) objects.

For references of exactly what causes the reactions, see this google image link, seriously almost everything here I can't even look at. I tried to make a list, but I just can't.

a list

Achluophobia
Lygophobia
Myctophobia
Nyctophobia (dark or night in the case of this one)
Scotophobia

mine is common and apparently has multiple names: fear of darkness. which is annoying as there are some things i like which lurk/live in the darkness. such as umbreon (well, i like all eeveelutions but that's beside the point here).

also, endless empty voids of darkness. which is why i can never venture to certain areas in games such as "the end" map in minecraft (dumb, i know :/ but can't be helped).

Spheksophobia - Wasps, hornets, yellow jackets
Apiphobia - Bees (not as much as wasps, but still)
Arachnophobia - Spiders/scorpions
Claustrophobia - Closed/confined spaces
Acrophobia - High locations where I can look over the edge and feel dizzy

I hate seeing pitch black openings, i.e. abandoned homes with gaping windows and doors on a dark night, gives me the creeps -_-

Those last two made me lol, one was the fear of long words
and the other the fear of being afraid, the first one, well, a lot of people have that.

Submechanophobia. But mainly, wherein you cannot exactly see anything else but what you're face to face with, and because the object is big you know that were it to sink down into the abyss further, that because you're near enough to see it so well that it'd pull you further down into the crushing darkness with it. It's one thing to see around you and see a void of blue, but then to look below you and see a void of darkness and know that this massive object thats foreign to this area can fall deeper and just by being near it you'd be pulled down with it. Also being in an enviroment thats absolutely not made for you to be in.

Like was the fate of some could've-been Titanic survivors who unfortunately hadn't swam away/couldn't swim away in time from the sinking stern of the ship that had gone down below them, and due to its sheer size sucked them down with it at a rate faster than they could've swam since it was such a huge object. I don't quite know what exactly that massive pull is but theres a reason I'm not so educated on something so terrifying. The ones who froze to death at the water's surface were lucky compared to those who literally went down with the ship because they were in the exact minute worst part of the ocean to possibly be in. Total helpessness, and you're given enough time to realize how fucked you are.

I'm otherwise pretty much over with my other phobias to where I can't really list them because it'd be a lie to do so, but seeing shit like this and imagining it suddenly rotating... and getting to the speed that it does... http://i.imgur.com/w3BljN4.jpg

It's all good and cool though, if its shallow and I can see the bottom of where this sunken vessel is but I wouldn't go very nearby. Theres something about the way the whole thing... looks. They look neat and interesting from a distance(like on a computer) where whatever the hell could be inside won't magically be disturbed and decide you need to fuck off. But the unsettling aura will always remain in some varying degree of disturbingness...

  • Dogs when they are not leashed. Had a traumatic experience when I was young. Still avoiding these fuckers to this day.
  • Deep water. And I still can't swim.
  • Heights. I hate it at most when people poke and say "hey don't fall" just to tease me when we are somewhere up high.

If I'm in a tall building that's big at the base but gets smaller at the top, I'm fine with it. But if it's the same width from top to bottom, then I have a problem.

Whenever I go to an amusement park I start with the smallest roller coaster, then work my way to the tallest one. Top Thrill Dragster however is the exception to me.

Updated by anonymous

my fear of darkness isn't always that bad (unless it's that minecraft map. in which case, keep that the F away from me!) but it does tend to get me really bad if it's night time and i'm randomly browsing the internet and happen upon ANYTHING remotely creepy and/or scary looking.

it's not bad enough to have me scared of something as silly as a shadow but...

case in point, i happened to look at an article about FNAF 4 (was seeing if anyone figured out that odd locked box at the end yet) earlier and...now i need to go get something to drink and can barely stand the thought of opening my bedroom door to go to the kitchen. dammit! >:(

and before anyone suggests a flashlight or something, that really doesn't help things with me. it still leaves me feeling SUPER creeped out in general.

edit: ugh, there! one quick dash to the kitchen then another with cup of koolaid in hand (only spilled 1or 2 drops). i bet you all would be amazed at how fast i can run when scared of something.

especially since i typically walk partial digitigrade stance, keeping my heels around 2 inches off the ground most of the time. i can move around incredibly fast when i feel like it. :P

I used to have a bit of arachnophobia (fear of spiders), but now think primarily two things about them.

1. Jumping spiders are adorable.
2. I could hold and pet a tarantula if given the opportunity.

Tarantulas are cool as shit but they're kinda scary in the right context. If you see one that is properly domesticated and will act very calmly, they're super cute. But if it moves fast and erratically at random times. It would scare the shit out of me, it would need to be calm and collected if I were to hold one, I wouldn't be able to handle one that freaks out and runs around.

I used to be scared of dogs, cause I was nearly killed by one when I was 7 or 8. But I am no longer scared of them.
I also have an irrational fear of being swallowed alive.
Hm, can't think of much else.

Edit: thought of something else. Deep water. Like, a lake or the ocean. Freaks me out.

don't know about you but with irl wasps. keep them the hell away from me! been stung (or is it bitten? whatever) by a few over the years and they hurt like hell and then some.

i have a legitimate reason to fear wasps and bees that isn't a phobia. darn things...they make it hard for me to just go out on the porch or take out the trash when they're all buzzing around.

though i have noticed that those big fat bumble bees tend to be rather territorial. like you could see a few buzzing around but they'd be split up with each guarding a specific section of the yard or something. true, those tend to leave you alone but it's kinda an odd sight seeing them act so territorial like that. then when another gets near they may start flying around fussing at each other.

Back when I was in high school, my science teacher had a pet tarantula in the classroom. I distinctly remember her saying to one of the students that wanted to hold it that if the tarantula falls to the ground, it'll likely break open its abdomen.

Whenever I see a jumping spider, I try to pick it up. Sometimes, I'm successful. But for the most part, they start bouncing about like fleas.

It's actually quite astonishing how they're able to leap fifty times their body length, when they have stubby looking legs and no specialized physical equipment for jumping.

Also, they're inquisite as fuck.

IRL, yeah, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, they all give me the creeps, their appearance, but rather their potential to inflict severe pain with their venom, is what bothers me the most about them. That, and they can sting over and over again. Bees, not so much, wasps, damn right, they're nature's trolls.

i can sympathize with that.

in the case of that minecraft map, on top of the endless black void that i despise, you also have that giant black dragon with glowing eyes drifting around and you never can tell where it's at at any given time or when and from where it'll swoop in to attack.

some kind of weather-like atmosphere, ANYTHING would've been fine. just NOT an empty black void. anything but that and i could handle the place np.

heck, on this game i started playing recently (Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, i got the original copy too for the bonuses that come with converting you're save file. :P) the darkness doesn't phase me in the slightest. it just annoys me sometimes. that's it, no fear, no nothing, even if theres a friggin cyclops wandering around at night. although...a drake might spook me but that's more along the lines of WTF RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! RUN FROM THE FIERY DOOM! perfectly understandable reaction, right? ^.^;

I had my first experience with fire ants a few weeks ago.

Worse than bees by miles. Even worse than yellowjackets. Little bastards are impossible to see, unlike wasps, and they go out of their way to ruin your day.

As someone who helps with beekeeping, the ants that the honey attracts are far more irritating than the bees.

THATS THE COOL THING, they're like hyper aggressive (every species is aggressive don't be fooled they all want you dead) If ants could develop a big enough colony, they would straight up be the apex predator there would be NOTHING that could stop a proper full sized gigantic ant colony. Not humans, not animals, nothing. Ants are the perfect species in so many ways if they could just get a big enough colony nothing would be able to stop them.
