Topic: Series' That Need to End / Begin / Come Back?

Posted under Off Topic

(Just something to talk about)
There's a bunch of cartoons / shows that air...On the internet, in different countries, on T.V, a lot that don't make it (Pilots get released), and some that a lot of people feel need to end...
There's a bunch of things that I wish got released, like Korgath the Barbarian, The Modifier (And no, NOT because of the Zone animation, Modifuckers), Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, and some that I feel like need to come to a complete stop, like the new Teen Titans Go, Johnny Test, and all Soap Operas.
There's a bunch of cartoons out there that people only like because they create so much color and attractive animation that it's basically a circle jerk on your face, and some try way too hard to make people laugh, like Uncle Grandpa. There's also some that get way too much hype, especially from people who probably don't understand what they're even talking about, like The Big Bang Theory (There's a shit ton of people who watch it and don't even know what that theory is).
There's a bunch of shows I feel should come back, like Invader Zim, Dexter's Laboratory, and, maybe not the original concept, but a recreation of ChalkZone.
Opinions? Again, this is just something to talk about (Even though it's probably been brought up before), and for the purpose of not snowballing an arguement, leave My Little Pony out of this. While I don't like the show / fanbase myself, there's no reason to create an arguement.

Opinions?

Spongebob should have ended with the first movie.

If I recall correctly, a lot of fans mark that as a transition point where the series incrementally went downhill because they changed head writers.

I don't know how you could make a Pokemon Trozei! movie at all interesting.

Anyway, seconding Samurai Jack.

Pretty much. The movie was originally supposed to be the series finale, but Viacom saw how profitable Spongebob still was, and wanted to continue. Hillenberg on the other hand stuck to his guns about wanting to stop with the movie and left the show, along with a majority of the writers.

If I remember correctly, the Samurai Jack series was completed.
Spongebob has most definitely reached the point where it's become a cash cow for the creators, the newer shows arn't nearly as good/funny as the older ones, but the younger generation doesn't know that, and they think it's the best.
Just like other shows out there.

What needs to end (gonna get shade from this): Star Wars. It is the most milked franchise of them all. It's been milked since 1980 (that's 35 years of milk) AND Disney is still planning on making 2 more movies in 2017 and 2019.

What needs to come back: Samurai Jack, original Teen Titans and Class of 3000.

I feel like Invader Zim went out on top and pretty much ran its course while I couldn't think of anything that would be better to suddenly return than some new Dexter's Lab.

But actually retrospecting and that last season was just absolutely horrible......maybe it's better some shows stay gone with none the original writing to speak of

I always get ridiculed by people because I say Spongebob Season 5 was the ultimate best season.

But anyway, the new episodes are a complete bust. They even don't bring a simple smile to me. It should end.

Continue list:

-Highschool of the dead
-Girls und Panzer
-Jormungand (the end left many possibilities open)
-Z Nation
-Star Wars: Clone Wars
-Futurama

End:

-NCIS (especially New Orleans)
-CSI:Cyber (first episode just got released here)
-The Simpsons (the newer episodes suck after the movie)

I think Green Lantern: The Animated Series needs to come back. Most definitely

And Samurai Jack

As far as TV shows go, I've got no idea about what's going on (I'm still stuck in the 90's), but really, shows like Maury (not exactly that but also the Latin American variant: 'Laura en América') must end. Stupid shit like those shows really have no place in television.

But in games I'd like to see the Crash Bandicoot and the Spyro series again (Sierra fucked the guys pretty bad). FPSes really need to stop too, we have way too much games like that.

Maybe games that break the fourth wall like MGS did when fighting Psycho Mantis. Seruously, that shit made me think my PS1 was fucked beyond recovery (then I remembered my TV said 'VIDEO' not 'HIDEO' :u )

Oh, and sports games. Why do those exists in the first place?

i wish shows like fraud er...ghost hunters (shows like this, i find incredibly stupid with pretty much 0 entertainment value. unlike trutv's top 20 series which are at least fun to watch for...comedy value, at the very least.) would stop since we all already know it's all fake.

"did you here that?" note: when they say something like that, 10 times out of 10, you the viewer will have heard nothing at all aside from them BSing you.

i'm pretty sure that almost all of that show can be written off as sound/video editing and other special effects.

the shadows or lights seen in the videos could easily be edited in special effects nowadays, i'm sure.

as for shows getting a comeback, i know the creators of SWAT KATS has or had (dunno if it's expired yet) a kickstarter to try and bring back that show. i'm sure there may be other old shows like that too.

Rayzr said:all Soap Operas.

meh, those are probably like reality tv series. they keep putting them out there and inevitably someone watches them regardless of how sucky they are.

I'd been thinking a lot about this.....Mission Hill left way too soon, the fact that so many animatics were left in states of half-completion really speaks for all its lost promise. I think a lot of the dialogue tracks had already been recorded as well, I remember seeing a lot these hosted on some fansite way back. It'd probably be cost-prohibitive to continue in the traditional style but if the stars were properly aligned who's to say if it might even be possible to be brought back to a new lease of life through any number of modern technique.

Just a fevered dream.......

I think Samurai Jack was ended due to low ratings (which I wonder why, since the show was THAT awesome) and abruptly "ended" with 52 episodes. It continues as a comic, though. But I do really miss those badass fights and animation style, also the kickass soundtrack.

I can't agree with you more. When that "cartoon t.v. series" of star wars came out I wanted to jump off a bridge. Not only is the show poorly made, it's like you said, just a cash cow. Little kids watch it and they make money from it.

I could support this. That was a good show, and The Green Lantern doesn't get enough spotlight.

In my opinion, Crash Bandicoot ran it's course. It had a few games, and it's plot wasn't that complicated so they couldn't really make more. But while it lasted, it was an amazing series.
FPS' I can agree need to end. Not entirely, but the whole CoD series in general is just a cash cow now.
Sport games exist for sports fans because they're gullible and want to look like fans.

I am really sad that anybody finds Family Guy funny

When I first discovered it, I thought it was funny because their style of humor was new to me. After a few years, it does tend to get stale. And then Seth makes 4 other shows that are exactly the same thing but with different settings and characters...

I find Family Guy to be funny. A lot of the times, you REALLY need to understand what they're joking about, or else you're going to be lost. Sure a lot of it is stupid humor, 80% of it offensive humor, but for the rest of it you need to have a bit of world logic.
It does get stale though. They need to start being a bit more original.

I liked some episodes from the seasons that came out before the revival.
I decided to give the show another chance a month ago and I couldn't even make it to the first commercial break. Evidently the Family Guy writing team's response to jokes not working is "Make it go on for an entire minute!"

They're also apparently under the impression that shock and offensiveness alone are funny, and the most annoying thing is that shows like Spongebob and The Simpsons seem to have copied them.

Long story short: The guy who "made" KND wants to get another spin off series greenlit. So far Cartoon Network has turned him down, but he's being politely persistent and asking for fan support. Google it for more info if you're interested.

Very interesting. If the guy wants full support, Patreon is the best place to go if he hasn't already. I'm sure there would be TONS of people to help out.

(Video games, T.V. shows, anything that forms a series)

End:
Call Of Duty
good point: Generic shooter that is occasionally entertaining
Bad point: Generic shooter that sets a low bar for the game publishing community
Reason for end:
Promotes easy linear gameplay that bores traditional gamers to death.

Continue:
House MD
Good point: Constantly interesting and changing stories/situations
Bad point: Basically the same diagnostic revelations every episode
Reason for continue:
Promotes well researched extensive plot points and situations that characters are challenged by despite their expertise.

End:
Portal multiplayer
Good point: Constantly and increasingly challenging gameplay
Bad point: Absolutely no replay value, one time with one friend or the next time sucks
Reason for end:
Anyone trying to play multiplayer with a different friend will get sick of it very quickly

End:
League/Dota2/H.O.T.S
Good point: Consistant gameplay dependent on skill and knowledge (+Team based)
Bad point: Crowds the MLG/Pro gaming scene pushing other games out of the spotlight
Reason for end: Not so much end, but no more after this. RTS's need to get back into MLG spotlight

Continue:
Supreme Commander
Good point: Well balanced gameplay mixed in with large maps and huge unit caps
Bad point: Game developer has a hard time balancing out eco sources
Reason for continue: Interesting units and strats can be employed, cheese/gimp

End:
Assassins Creed
Good point: Interesting gameplay based on assassination with custom gameplay choices
Bad point: Horrible bugs and terrible combat system
Reason for end: This series died years ago, its gotten absolutely horrible ever since and lost all value

Continue:
Tom Clancy games
Good point: Siege, Vegas 1&2, Splinter Cell - interesting gameplay/very difficult at times
Bad point: Recent games have been less complicated and difficult
Reason for continue: Complicated strategy based gameplay occasionally makes for an amazing game.

I agree with this, and at the same time I don't.
H.O.T.S. is just Blizzards way of making cash. The game isn't nearly as fun as League or Dota, and it doesn't even pull you in. The game gives you a basic objective, and it really doesn't take that much to complete it. There's no complex system in this game, you don't have to buy items, only level your skills and try not to feed. That's really it.
I do believe that no more MOBA style games should be created CURRENTLY. In the future, sure. I'm hopeing someone will come up with an amazing idea for a MOBA game and release it.
I do NOT believe that MOBA games are taking up the spotlight. Starcraft 2 is HUGE still. The reason it's not as BIG as MOBA games is because it's more complicated and requires more skill / knowledge. CoD is still, sadly, in the spotlight as well. CoD has tournaments that go on every now and then and they're sometimes pretty interesting.
The Dark Souls series, while it may not be strictly multiplayer, is also taking in some of the spotlight, especially since they're now pumping out Dark Souls 3 here soon, and Bloodborne sent people raging in fangasms.
Minecraft is of course still big, but lets face it, it's going to die here soon.
TROVE tried taking over as the "new" minecraft, but that game sucked.
Other than that, the reason MOBA games are taking up a good chunk of the glorious spot light is because Nobody is creative enough to think of something better. MOBA games are simple, they're multiplayer, provide a satisfying conclusion to each game played, and provide goals for people playing.
I don't see anybody beating the MOBA games for at least another couple years or so. That newer game, Evolve, tried to do it, but come on. That game was a bust. It's gameplay was simple, either you outsmart the ONE player, or he overpowers you. Simple as that. Nothing complex about it. The best thing the game had was it's graphics and its early fan support, but once the beta came out, people were disappointed, and once the game was actually released, people who PRE-PAYED for it were disappointed.

Kitty Bobo had potential, I think.

I totally voted for this back in 2001! They probably thought another 'urbanite' show would've been too much after Sheep in the Big City, but that whole cell-phone trope really hit home....they both had fantastic writing, a lot of those pilots did (shame the same couldn't be said for KND which got really stale really fast)

Mike, Lu & Og was great (the animals' Philosophical Society was the best part) and seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye, but I guess 2 seasons was good enough after all and most importantly it still feels very fresh even today.

Some are inexplicably missing but I'm really glad most are still uploaded....that theme is so joyful
