Truly correct, shark ecological importance is massive. When sharks are overfished, ecosystems are thrown into a mess, as it looses its main predator.
We need more otters too :p
That is all.

Interestingly, China is actually experiencing a shift in perception from what I've heard regarding shark fin soup. Most people in China are against it now, due to some activism.

Prior to said activism, most Chinese people didn't know that shark fin soup contained shark. Which sounds weird until you learn that the Chinese term for the soup is "fish fin soup", and looks nothing like shark.

Point being, hopefully this will have a reducing effect on the amount of shark fishing going on. Now if only we could work out the ivory issue.

I was meaning more along the lines of Shark Tits, but what you two are talking about it's pretty interesting also.

From what I hear, it doesn't even taste that good.

They're better off farming Tuna, which I heard was only recently made possible.

It's more that in China it is a symbol of wealth. So as the mainland Chinese became more wealthy, they naturally wanted to do things traditionally associated with wealth. Much like how an American who suddenly came into wealth might think of buying a sports car, for instance.
