Topic: Upload Limit Confusion

Posted under General

Ok, so I attempt at posting things(though they're usually deleted) and I understand that it affects my upload limit. The only thing I don't understand is that my upload limit dropped from 7 to 6, even though I haven't uploaded and haven't had anything deleted recently. However, I did flag something for deletion. I wonder, does that affect my upload limit, and if it does, why?

One of your approved posts has been flagged for deletion. It looks to me like that basically "puts it back in the approval queue." Meaning that one doesn't currently count as deleted or approved - and counts against your "uploaded but not approved."

Updated by anonymous

10 + (7 / 10) - (13 / 4) - 1 = 6

you seem to have 1 unapproved pic pending approval/disapproval.

calm down. the slyroon's upload is a lot larger and better quality than yours. if you want to avoid your images getting deleted, upload the largest and best quality version available.

Does it look like I know that it isn't the best quality version? I posted that when I didn't even know e621 didn't accept human-exclusive art, and that's why my upload limit is so low. I submitted 10 images of Super Smash Bros characters, but they were all deleted because they were human exclusive.

...mmmmmmmmaybe the site should be set so that people have a minimum upload limit of 1. There has been a lot of complaints about people's upload limits being zero or negative, and if anyone is too much trouble, they could always be banned, either from uploading or the site.

its written in avoid posting list that you should not post human only stuff. also read this forum thread.

It's not exactly mandatory to read the AP list. Hell, I haven't even read it yet, mainly because I've only ever uploaded a single picture, and, yes, I know it was just a screencap. I've never planned on actually uploading anything to the site, other than the screencap that promptly got deleted because it was a screencap that served no purpose on the site.

It doesn't help that the help section isn't very visible, considering it's filed under Wiki.

Seriously? Why would you send me a link to that forum? You already know I read it hours ago, and you can't say you didn't because you commented on one of my posts there.

Even if you did read that, which I think I did, how're you supposed to know WHERE to find the best image? I don't know where specific artists post their art, and I'm not going to set up an account for a site simply to upload art from that site here.

Honestly, I don't know why I bother commenting and trying to upload anything. Any time I try to voice my opinion, I get my head bitten off, and every time I upload, it's either considered irrelevant, "not meeting quality standards" and now the constant threat that anything I upload will be flagged. Seems that for every good thing that happens to me, two or three bad things happen.

Please calm down. Nobody expects anybody to find and upload the best version available. However if somebody found and uploaded something better. then that should stay. Sure it suck to have something you found and shared deleted. Just don't let minor setbacks stop you from uploading what you want. The chance that i or somebody else, comes and find and upload something better. is pretty low if you stick to this guide.

The upload limit from my understanding isn't a huge problem. Should you ever find that your limit goes too low or into the negatives the mods will consider your posting history. Provided your deleted posts are not blatant violations such as uploading DNP works or irrelevant materials they will more than likely set your total back to something reasonable.

No one here is trying to prevent you from posting because another user found higher quality versions of images you posted. The fact that they count against you as deletions is just a part of the system in place, but it's not meant to be a personal attack on you.

Yeah, but it's kind of annoying having your upload limit reduced because you thought you posted the highest quality version, and then someone manages to find a relatively-obscure version that's even better. Similar with deleting things you uploaded because you want to remove them from the site because they're yours, that is, if that happens.

I honestly think that if the system doesn't work like this already, it should:

User uploads post.

  • User deletes post because they uploaded it by mistake; No wrath incurred on user post limit.
  • Admin approves post.
    • Another user flags it for deletion, admin denies deletion.
    • Another user flags it for deletion, admin approves deletion.
      • Duplicate or Inferior; No wrath incurred on user post limit.
      • Avoid Posting; Wrath incurred on user post limit, but within reason, especially if the person is new. If their behavior doesn't change, up the severity.
      • Paysite or Commercial Content; Wrath incurred on user post limit, but within reason, especially if the person is new. If their behavior doesn't change, up the severity.
      • Deleted Before; No wrath incurred on user post limit, unless the user had already attempted to upload it before, in which case wrath should most definitely incur.
      • Real Pornography; Wrath should most definitely incur on user post limit.
      • Corrupted, Broken, or Otherwise Doesn't Work; No wrath incurred on user post limit.
    • Another user requests a takedown, admin approves or denies it; Case-by-case basis, but usually no wrath incurred.
    • A month (Or other suitable time frame) passes after being posted.
      • Another user flags it for deletion, admin denies deletion.
      • Another user flags it for deletion, admin approves deletion.
        • Duplicate or Inferior; No wrath incurred on user post limit.
        • Avoid Posting; Wrath incurred on user post limit, and depending on the nature of the post, could be incurred at full severity, if the post in question would cause legal problems, or at the "within reason" level, albeit a little more relaxed because it's been on there for a while, and only just now are people catching on that it's on the AP list.
        • Paysite or Commercial Content; Wrath incurred on user post limit at full severity, because law.
        • Deleted Before; No wrath incurred on user post limit, too much time has passed and no one has noticed it in that time frame.
        • Real Pornography; Wrath incurred on user post limit, but more severe, as it has survived for longer, and thus is jeopardizing the site legally.
        • Corrupted, Broken, or Otherwise Doesn't Work; No wrath incurred on user post limit.
      • Another user requests a takedown, admin approves or denies it; Case-by-case basis, but usually no wrath incurred.

You guys are unhealthily obsessed with that number.

And it is by design that the limit can go negative, so that is unlikely to change as well.

I stopped caring about that number when "I uploaded about 130 images to a couple of faf's comics"https://e621.net/takedown/show/3128.

Sure, I note it down when I update my profile on a monthly basis, but that's about it. One quickly realizes that certain images will get FFD anyways (mostly because someone found a larger version), or surprise takedowns will occur. But neither should deter anyone from uploading images that you come across.

Otherwise, if everyone cared about keeping their deleted posts number at 0 or as close to 0 as possible, then e621 would be a barren website. And I don't like that.

I've been here for almost a year, contributed a lot in that time, earned a promotion (thank you Nimmy) for my good work, and overall try to be a good example for others to follow.

To be honest, I see you more often than Slyroon, not saying he is inactive. GameManiac for contributor? :D

Slyroon is the silent guardian of better_version_at_the_source in his endless quest to make me suffer through 100 FFDs every day find and offer us better versions of everything.

Wait, when did "Human exclusive" become automatic grounds for dismissal. I thought the rule was 'May be deleted at any time with no warning" not "Will be deleted IMMEDIATELY HURDURHUR"

You're not the first person to tell me that, and its always flattering when I hear that. It tells me that I'm doing good on e621 and that I'm making a name for myself. Or something egomaniacal like that.

In all honesty though, I feel that the "Contributor" rank is deserved for people who upload high-quality art of their OWN creation (like Tokaido, Doktor-Savage, zp92, and Kayla-Na). I'm clearly wrong because I know Sylroon and Cheesax don't draw (not to my knowledge anyway).

I'm drawing as is, but I probably won't start uploading relevant art until sometime next year. I'm still in "practice mode", sketching a little of what I feel artists need to draw for fundamentals, and that's anatomy.

I've drawn postures, eyes, ears, mouths, noses, hands, feet, wings, tail, chests (male/female) and butts (male/female). Now I'm going to practice drawing the "dirty" stuff. Assholes, dicks and pussies.

The bottom line is that I want to draw a little of everything and have an open mentality to it. Because I know that'll give me an edge when it comes to commissions, to be an artist that isn't afraid to draw feces or gore.

Maybe when I'm really bored, I'll go through that tag and see what I can do.

Also, good job Sylroon. Your actions aren't going unnoticed (except to the users that uploaded the "inferior" versions).
