Topic: Question about a Multi-Platform Game Idea

Posted under Off Topic

Do you think there will ever be an online multiplayer game that people of any console and PC can play together/against on? (Players using Xbox vs. Players using PlayStation, players using PC vs. players using Nintendo console, etc.) But of course there's going to be coding in balancing needed. I'd figure if this was to be possible to do (especially for PVP), the game would have to generate advantages and disadvantages for players depending on: console/pc, internet connection, etc., so the online matches can be as balanced and fair as possible.

Thoughts?

I believe there's a chess game that has cross-platform multiplayer. I can play it on my Wii U against someone playing it on the PC.

The only one I know of that does this is "Eve". There is Eve: Online for the PC and Eve: Dust 514 for the PS3 which have connected gameplay.

one of the bigger problems i would see with a mmo covering all platforms is how console users will always be whining about how pc users get free multiplayer in games while they, the console users, have to pay extra for online multiplayer access. even if it were a game operating via subscription plan(s), there'd likely be that problem to deal with since pc users would STILL be getting off cheaper than console users.

so long as i have a pc, you will NEVER get my money for multiplayer when i have the option of free multiplayer in games via pc, M$. feree > paid, every single time on that topic.

that big problem would probably need to be dealt with early on.

that would make me want to avoid the game entirely. i'd want to play the same game as everyone else. not a game that's different in some ways depending on which platform i prefer to play on.

I think Microsoft/Sony does a lot of shit to make sure that that developers do not do this

Phantasy Star Online EP 1&2 was planned to be shared servers, but M$ wanted to be separate. Not sure how FFXI on shared servers happened...

I'm pretty sure games are kept console specific for a good reason, though I must admit, they could have made games such as cod playable online together for both systems in the family.

Well there's No Man's Sky, coming out in June for PS4 and PC. All players are apparently going to share an online world, regardless of platform
