Topic: Favorite button isn't working properly when something is already favorited

Posted under General

Normally if I open something up that has been Favorited the favorite button will display as red with a minus sign and allow me to remove a piece from my favorites when clicked.

For some reason though when I open a piece now the favorite button displays as if the piece were not in my favorites (so it's green with a plus sign) and when clicked it acts as if I'm trying to refavorite the piece (the error message "Error: You've already favorited this post" displays).

Any ideas on why or how to fix this?

When you're viewing the thumbnails, in the upper left is a dropdown box for Mode that by default says View posts. You can set that to Remove from favorites to remove an image from your favorites.

I know but removing the item from my favorites isn't the main issue.

If you reset the favorite status, it might fix the button. That's all I can offer you on this.

  • What browser/OS are you using? If you are using mobile Chrome try disabling their 'data saver' feature. (other browsers may have similar settings on mobile)
  • Do you have Javascript enabled?
  • Are you using a proxy, privacy addon, tor, or other software that might be interfering with traffic?

I'm using Firefox, current version.
I don't have Java enabled as far as I know
I am not using any kind of proxy.

I attempted this and resetting the status didn't not solve the issue.

Are you on a mobile device? I haven't been able to reproduce this on desktop Firefox, but Android's version might be a bit different.

Java is different than Javascript, the two are actually unrelated.

  • Javascript is usually enabled by default and disabling it will affect most websites. I won't go into details about what it does but it essentially works behind the scenes to make websites interactive (it's not the only way to do it, but it's hard to find a website that doesn't use it). You should be able to see whether javascript is enabled here.
  • Java is actually a plugin used for making web apps (similar to Flash) but it has poor mobile support and has largely been replaced. It's becoming less and less common to find on websites.

Some tests that may help narrow down the cause:

  • Open the site in private browsing (ctrl/command + shift + n on desktop), login, and retry. Tell me what you see.
  • Same as above but using a different browser like Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc. (private browsing is optional)

I am on the desktop version, Javascript is enabled.
I opened in the private window and the problem was solved in that session but persisted in the non-private one.
Same for the other browser.

Go to about:preferences#privacy -> clear your recent historyand wipe just the cache. Cookies should be fine to leave since there's nothing related to favorites in there, but if you do try to delete them, I'd instead go to remove individual cookies and delete just the e621.net (and/or e926.net) ones.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe an addon is interfering with it somehow (they don't disable by default in private mode, but some of them might detect private mode and disable themselves automatically).
