Topic: spaces after commas disappear when i write comments

Posted under General

i dunno if it's my computer or what but i felt like i should mention that every time i put a comma with a space after it, the space is deleted

example: if i comment "hey, dude" it becomes "hey, dude". if i edit and put the space back in it goes through but i don't think i should have to do that

minor inconvenience but still an inconvenience lol

I'm sure it only appears that way immediately after you post the comment. If you refresh the page it should go away. At least, that's how it works in my experience.

You don't have to edit, actually. It only temporarily appears that way to the user who submitted the comment - other users never see it.

It's a bug, but it's a non-issue.

its just a display issue. the spaces are there but they dont appear before you refresh page.

It's been around for awhile, but proved very hard to track down what is causing it (which is why it still exists). Fortunately it is mostly cosmetic: the actual post is fine, it just displays wrong. It only happens right at first (just a regular refresh will display things as normal). And it will always display normal to everyone else even when it's showing you the weird space problem that first time.

This glitch tends to show up before/after punctuation especially. And if you use a link in your post, this glitch will make most of the link (and all the text after the link) seem to disappear. (As you can imagine, that has caused more than one person to momentarily panic). But a page refresh will show it all back to normal because the glitch is only that first display right after you post your own comment/forum post. Eventually we'll probably figure it out, but because it's only a one-time display glitch, most other issues on the site end up being a lot higher priority to fix.

Thanks for letting us know about it though. Most bugs are found first by regular users who notice things, so even though this one is already known we still appreciate the effort. Although for future bug reports, it's easier if you post them on the stickied Bug Report Thread ( https://e621.net/forum/show/28544 ). It's the place the site developers check first, so they'll be sure to see it sooner if bug reports go on that thread. And it helps us keep things more organised on the forum.
