Topic: Artist link vs Commissioner Link?

Posted under Art Talk

So I've been seeing a number of posts that had links to the commissioner's post but not to the artist's post. I'm wrong for thinking that the artist's link is more important than the commissioner's?

id say that the artist link should be favored over commissioner link. i mean when person clicks the source, they do not do it to see gallery of the person who paid for it. they are doing it to see the gallery of the artist.

My thoughts exactly

The issue here is probably more that people find things in the gallery of the commissioner before it shows up on the artist's page, or they don't go searching for the image in the depths of the artist's page when they found something in the commissioner's gallery.

Also, with 5 possible links it doesn't matter, just add the source(s) as they are available.

Personally, I don't think it even matters. If a user wants to get to an artist's gallery, they can usually hit the question mark next to the artist's name and get a list of relevant links.

Doesn't mean that is an excuse to source poorly :P

except those dont always have links. and they are not helpful at all when you want to the open the specific drawing on the artist's gallery to fave/reblog/whatever it. seriously have you ever tried to find a drawing from some artist's gallery when the artist has 500+ uploads and the drawing was posted year or two ago?

It's even worse if you are trying to figure out whether it's paid content because at best you will find out that it isn't there. :/

Use either.
If the commissioner does not link to the artist in his submission, use the link the artist instead.

Use both. There is no reason to not have all possible sources linked.

I try to post both sources, with the artist's first (it's sometimes higher quality).

Same for me. And if either of the two doesn't have it in one of their galleries (cause that also happens the other way around, with commissioners not posting it for some reason), I at least include a link to their main page.

We've got five lines for sources, and I do care about keeping everyone involved happy, so IMO there's no reason to leave it at just one link to an FA post like it's just some obligatory annoyance.

ofc, but it seemed as if he asked which is most important, but yeah both is best.

nonono, I meant that if you have the commissioner's link you should at least try and find the artist's link. See I had been looking for sources for my tumblr blog and it miffed me when I couldn't find the artist's link to source it. Yeah both is the best option.
