Topic: Unfair Moderator Deletion

Posted under Off Topic

This isn't really a bug but I didn't know where to put it. Anyway I had made three uploads, each being SecondLife screen caps of my characters. But they were all deleted and the reason for each just said "Second Life" when I know there's over a hundred other posts of SL screenshots.
I'd like to know if this is even fair, and or if this person is even allowed to be a trust worthy mod.

The usual policy with game screenshots is that they're not approved. Anything you see was probably uploaded before that was the rule.

e621 isn't really the place to post Second Life screenshots. Some are accepted if they are really high quality(EG: probably shoved through photoshop a bit), but for the most part, it isn't allowed by the rules:

e621 Community Code of Conduct and Site Rules - Posting Abuse

Posting Abuse

Suggested Suspension Length: 3 to 7 days
This category includes:

  • Posting works made by one of the artists or publishers on the Avoid Posting List
  • Posting new commercial content that is not yet 2 years old.
  • Posting real pornography / real images or videos depicting illegal activities (such as bestiality, child pornography, etc.)
  • Knowingly uploading previously deleted content
  • Removing any watermark(s) or signature(s) from submissions
  • Knowingly adding or editing a post source to an incorrect link
  • Knowingly or repeatedly uploading a lower-resolution image, if there is a higher-resolution of that image available
  • Knowingly or repeatedly uploading screenshots, images under 200x200 pixels, images with artifacts or large watermarks, and/or non-artistic images (motivational posters, Second Life, memes, image macros, etc.)
  • Editing/creating post descriptions (if you are not the artist, uploader, character owner, or commissioner) to create information
  • Using post descriptions to express personal feelings, create drama, or otherwise take away from describing the attached post
  • Please try to use proper spelling and grammar in post descriptions

In addition, if a person who is submitting content wishes it for it to be removed, for any reason, within 48 hours, that request will be honored.
After 48 hours, the standard FFD and Takedown policies apply

This is intended to ensure there is a minimum level of quality on the website. By ensuring people who have specifically requested that their art not be on the site, removing art that is sufficiently poor quality, or encouraging tag usage. It also is expanded to include post descriptions and ensure that no one uses it to vandalize someone’s post.

If you want to upload Second Life screenshots, your best bet is https://8ch.net/sl or http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/. I'd mention my own site but that would be advertising so I will refrain from doing so.

This thread seems to have some relevant information: post #191418

I'm not fully qualified to give you a 100% concrete reason for it being deleted, but I do know that the mod team is nice and fair, and that they're not trying to follow an agenda. It can be upsetting to be denied something, but try not to lose sight of that :)

I was really hoping e621 was gonna be nice about SL pictures because I wanted to find ways of getting art of my characters without paying for commissions (I gladly would if I ever had money to spare)

E6 is not a place for panhandling for free artwork of your character, it's an artistic image hosting site. If you want a good image of your character, you will have to pay. Some lesser known artists can astonish you for dirt cheap, while major known ones can rip you off with their flaws, while costing you an arm and a leg.

There are other image sites where you can both upload your screenshots and ask for people to draw your image, but I can't say what you'll find out there, just that it is available.

Try places like deviant art, fur affinity and the like for posting of second life screencaps. We don't allow them here because we only accept polished, finished art and high quality WIP's. Our main focus is on the art itself, whereas most other sites focus on the artist and thus allow them to post their scraps and screencaps, etc

Lonbluewolf is a super cheap artist.

But personally. Try dangerously on fA or thatwhiskeredthing on inkbunny. You can find both of them via tags here.

Theyre cheap too.

Its kind of a grey area...but I totally agree with disallowing direct screenshots of anything as those are not really art, nor are they something "archivable" because they really don't have a creator behind them, they are simply a game engine capture or still image.

Its a bit grey because there is a prominent use of things like Source Filmmaker and what not, but those can be considered artistic because they are original content created using "game engine" like software, even if the character models in the product are essentially ripped from another game to do so.

Sfm isn't using a game engine. Gmod would be but Sfm is a program explicitly for making movies etc

SFM is an animation program using (guess what) the Source game engine.
