Topic: [Question] How could one obtain a username of a 4-year-old account-sitter?

Posted under General

By account-sitting, I mean purposely creating an account with a specific name just so others can't take the name, then never using it.

First immediate question, judging context, is: are you assuming that it is a sitting account? The reason for this is you don't need to use assets of the site to have an account.

Second: can you provide links so a person who can do something about it won't have to look around for what you mean.

*stuff*

I wanted to take the username Nikolai, however, a user under that name had already been created back four years ago. They have no favorites, no posts, no comments- their profile is just completely empty. No bio, no artist info, no records- nothing. This leads me to believe that they are either a master lurker, or they created the account to troll anyone who might want to use that name in the future.

You can just message the mods.

If they deem the account inactive they will likely give over the name.

Oh, alright. I guess I hadn't thought of that...

At the cost of minor-necroposting, rather than creating a new thread for a similarly relevant question; if an account with a desired username is 1 year old but listed as Unactivated, that is I presume legitimately unused due to never using the activation email provided; would it be acceptable to request the username from one of the staff?

Also find out if the activation email was ever completed.

Pretty sure I got this username by simply asking a mod about it.

13 days is necroposting now? The standards get worse every day

As Peekaboo and I said, just message a mod.

They'll decide whether or not it's "dead".
