I have ran into a problem which I certainly can't circumvent by any tag searching wizardry available.
That problem is the lack of solo_gender tags.

I have tried every tag syntax combination and I have gotten nowhere, it's strange because there's a solo_focus tag, but sadly there's no focus on a solo_gender tag.

For example, I can easily type "shark solo male" and find a bunch of solo female images, but I can't type "shark -solo male" and expect all 'solo female' images to be gone, just all solo images.

But here's my problem; I'm searching "chubby female -gay", but I get solo male images and I can't type -male because then I'd be limiting what I could find and -solo would do the same.

Is there any way to filter out pictures that are both solo AND male?

I think what you're actually looking for is shark solo female -male -intersex. What you might be seeing are actually not male but dickgirl (penis + breasts/female) or herm (penis + pussy).

Alternatively you could also add -penis, but this should filter out 99.9% of penis and the remaining probably isn't tagged penis anyways.

Edit - Tag blacklist, add these 2 lines:

solo male

solo penis

Edit 2: You should know that gay on this site means exclusively male homosexuality. For female homosexuality use lesbian instead.

I know what dickgirls are and thanks, I always thought blacklisting just meant filtering the specific tag, not multiple tags attributed to a single image, but I think there still has to be a more streamlined approach, as it'd be easier for searching up in the future without having to constantly blacklist and de-blacklist stuff.

It's not that tagging by character wouldn't work in theory it's just that it isn't how we do it here. As we have it now, a tag like solo_female would be an unnecessary tag because anything with solo and female in it should only have 1 character that's female in the post. Anything involving more than one character would need a whole new set of tags set up as per-character which the system just isn't designed to do.

The blacklist would definitely be your best bet here as it can do things that the search can't do (and vice versa). It's actually worth checking out the help:blacklist wiki for tips as it's surprisingly versatile.

While this tip doesn't avoid needing to go back and edit the blacklist, you can trick it into "ignoring" the line by putting a character like % in front of the line like so:

solo male

%solo intersex

solo penis

It technically still "reads" the line, but since there is nothing that is tagged "%solo" the line will never apply to anything. This way you at least don't have to delete and rewrite things from scratch.

As an example of how you could use this, I keep these in my own blacklist so that I don't have to keep typing them in the search:

%rating:safe

%rating:questionable

%rating:explicit 

Whatever I don't want to look at I just delete the % and hit save.

I'm so going to remember that trick, especially for tag projects. I'd been wishing there was an easy way to keep intact the list of terms I have blacklisted for the tag project, but just be able to turn it "off" when I'm not working on the project so that half of e621 isn't being hidden in every search when I'm working on other stuff. So I'll definitely be using this suggestion a lot.

Haven't you thought of searching for *your tags* + "-female"? Am I not getting the idea here?
