Topic: Are Tentacles "unethical"?

Posted under Off Topic

In fact, what the hell classifies as "ethical" in porn? I had a friend on Miiverse who supported Fox X Krystal like I do, he knew I drew porn shortly after I first started uploading, and he liked the very first one. But as soon as he saw the picture I drew of tentacles, he immediately lost his shit and started acting like I killed his brother or something, calling me a bad fan or something.

It's almost as if he's unaware of the quick blacklist (putting the "-" symbol before the tag), the even worse things, proper context, the difference between "canon" and "in-character", and the fact that it's just porn. I understand that tentacles can be weird, but by no account are they one of the worst types of porn ever (unless they are drawn with one of those things).

I don't draw Krystal having willing sex with any guy that isn't Fox McCloud, and I worded that on Miiverse by saying that I don't portray her as "easy", but he thinks that tentacles are hypocritical. I honestly don't think they are. Are tentacles weird? Probably. Are they out-of-character? Not how I drew them. I don't draw to hurt people, I draw to draw, and make pictures that people can like. I need tips on how to at least resolve this on a neutral note.

Just tell him how to use the blacklist. "My account" -> "Settings" -> "Big ol' box for blacklisting tags" -> "Enter tentacles on its own line there"

There's nothing unethical about tentacles, it's simply a matter of how some people have a kink for things, and others find it repulsive, for no reason other than what their instinct tells them.

Ok, thank you. Hopefully this get's resolved, regrets tend to stay with me for a really long time, this may help soften the weight on my shoulders for it.

I also think he's more of an anonymous browser, so he may not have an account here. This is why I brought up putting the "-" symbol before the tag.

Tentacles-> Bondage ->Rape
Something like that. I could see a connection being made this way.

I personally don't care for straight-up rape of any sort, but I don't take art very seriously so when I see a picture I don't like I just stop looking at it and move on. I find it very silly to throw a hissy fit about what people draw, unless they're obviously drawing it and sending it to specific people for the sole purpose of upsetting them or causing trouble i.e. hate art.

What you have to understand is that everyone wants to direct creativity, but very few get off their ass and create. As a creator, you have the final say in what you make. Your creations should fulfill your criteria, and while you should take public response into account, you should never base your art solely on that response because then you'll feel guilty and hate your work.

Basically, if you want to draw tentacle stuff, it only needs to seem "ethical" or okay to you, not to random perverts on the Internet (including myself.)

Probably because some people carry extra affection towards their favorite characters. They may not like to see them in such a "degarding" situation, since tentacles are mostly related to rape.

But all of this is just non-canon art, if he doesn't like it, just blacklist it.

How can tentacles be hypocritical? They're tentacles, not people.

Your friend seems pretty judgmental. Why would portraying something that doesn't fit with their idea of canon make a person a 'bad fan'? It just means that someone has a different idea than them.
Blacklist is probably not a real answer in that case, they probably first need to learn to accept that people have different ideas about things, and that that isn't a big deal if you don't make it one.

(What would a 'bad fan' be anyway? Someone whose actions repel people from the fandom?)

It's their problem whether they like tentacles or not.

You can't please everyone.

Wow, these responses are much better than what I could've come up with. In fact, they make me feel better about what I draw, they make me feel less regret over it. Thank you, guys.
